Description
Fin Fennec is the locked room instructor at BLUE, the world’s most prestigious detective training academy. She is widely recognized as the world’s leading expert on locked room studies and holds an S-rank detective license, a distinction achieved by fewer than ten people in the world. Physically, she has short blonde hair and ice-blue eyes, and her attire often consists of blouses with frills and ribbons. She keeps her detective license visibly attached to her skirt.

Fin’s most notable ability is known as the Phoenix touch. Through this technique, simply by touching an object or a room, she can instantly and precisely understand its materials and construction. Her capabilities include discerning exact measurements, place of origin, degree of deterioration, mass, compositional ratio, and even the signatures of a maker. She has reportedly used this power to discover five thousand hidden rooms, three thousand illegal constructions, and ten thousand physics tricks.

Her background is closely tied to the Fennec family legacy. Shachi, who would become her bodyguard and investigative partner, began serving her family while they were both children. The relationship between their families is deeply rooted, as the Shachi family had served the Fennec family for generations. Fin’s father had intended for this tradition to end, but Shachi’s parents insisted their son continue the service. Throughout her life, Fin has survived numerous life-threatening situations, including a fire at the Fennec Manor and being trapped in a locked room in Dubai, incidents later revealed to be the work of an organization known as the M. Family.

Fin first encountered Ron Kamonohashi when they were students at BLUE. Five years before the main story, she attended the faculty meeting that decided Ron would participate in a difficult practical exercise. She and Ron spoke about the exercises being a source of amusement for him, and she noted a particular assignment as being especially difficult. During that same period, the Bloody Field Trip Case occurred, in which Ron became the prime suspect. Fin was placed in charge of the investigation and, after examining the scene, determined it was a locked-room scenario and that nobody besides Ron could be the culprit.

In her role as an instructor, Fin is strict and highly professional. She has a clear, almost reverent dedication to solving mysteries, but initially views detective work as purely intellectual—a puzzle to be solved rather than a matter of life and justice. This perspective changes during the Twin Prison Locked Room Murder case in the Okutama Mountains. When a second murder occurs because she and the others focused only on solving the mystery instead of apprehending the culprit, Totomaru Isshiki’s sincere remorse opens her eyes to her own arrogance. She thanks him for showing her this and vows to catch the culprit to atone for her shame. From that point forward, she demonstrates a more proactive sense of responsibility for the human consequences of crime.

During this same case, she is wary of Ron, reminding him that according to BLUE’s operating regulations, any activity intended to clarify the truth is classified as detective work, and she will decide if his observations cross the line. However, after her realization about the need to catch criminals rather than merely solve puzzles, she allows him to help, reasoning that as long as she is the one who solves the case, he cannot be considered a detective.

Fin’s relationship with Shachi is one of long-standing trust and professional partnership. He serves as her devoted bodyguard and investigative partner, addressing her as Madame. While she appreciates his assistance, she occasionally has to reprimand him for his lively nature and his habit of excessively praising her.
