OVA
Description
Kanji Koganegawa is a first-year student at Date Tech High School and serves as the team's setter, a role he took on relatively recently after the previous third-year players retired. His most immediately noticeable feature is his physical stature; standing at 193 cm (approximately 6 feet 4 inches) tall with a muscular, athletic build, he towers over most players on the court, especially for his position. This impressive height, paired with a vertical jump that reaches 340 cm, makes him a formidable physical presence and a key component of Date Tech's renowned blocking formation, the Iron Wall. His appearance is completed by sharp eyes and dyed blond hair, with the middle of his fringe and his eyebrows remaining a contrasting black.

Koganegawa's personality is as large as his frame; he is an exceptionally energetic and enthusiastic individual who approaches volleyball with a level of earnestness that can sometimes become overwhelming for his teammates. He is direct, serious about giving his all, and incredibly sociable, showing no hesitation in approaching and befriending players from other schools, such as Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama. However, his eagerness is tempered by a notable lack of experience and game sense. He is often described as simpleminded or a "hot-blooded idiot," someone who acts first and thinks later, which can lead to mistakes on the court. Despite this, he is highly determined to improve and support his team, even if he sometimes focuses his efforts on the wrong areas of his game.

Within the story of the Spring Tournament, Koganegawa is presented as a raw but promising new talent for Date Tech. He is instrumental in forming the team's new Iron Wall alongside his upperclassmen, the stoic Takanobu Aone and the sharp-tongued Kenji Futakuchi. His role as a setter is unconventional; rather than being a calm strategist, he is an aggressive player who uses his height to perform powerful dump shots and high tosses that are difficult to block. His key relationships are central to his development. He has a great deal of respect for Aone and is frequently scolded by Futakuchi, who offers him crucial, if exasperated, advice. He also quickly forms a friendly rivalry and friendship with Shoyo Hinata during the first-year training camp, bonding over their shared enthusiasm for the sport.

Koganegawa's development arc revolves around his transition from a novice with only his physical gifts to a more polished and reliable player. He is painfully inexperienced, often sending tosses that are too high for his spikers and telegraphing his dump shots in ways that opponents can easily read. However, he is a dedicated learner. After receiving feedback, he adapts his techniques, learning to replace a feinted dump attack with a powerful, direct spike that is much harder to save. His performance improves noticeably after the first-year training camp, as he becomes more aware of his spikers' preferences and works to hide his intentions from the opposing team. His growth is a journey of learning to combine his overwhelming physical power with the nuance and technique required of a setter.

Koganegawa's most notable abilities are all tied to his unique physical profile for a setter. His blocking is a standout skill, allowing him to read spikers' forms and contribute to Date Tech's powerful team blocks. His dump shot, executed with raw power from his great height, becomes a significant offensive weapon. He can also perform a high toss with a very short setup time, using his jumping reach to place the ball perfectly for a spiker, creating a set that is both high-speed and high-arcing. Despite these strengths, his inexperience shows in his lower scores for game sense and technique, making him prone to falling for decoys and making predictable plays. After graduating, he continues his volleyball career by joining the Sendai Frogs, a Division 2 team in the V.League.
