TV-Series
Description
Kabaton is a former general from the Undergu Empire and an initial antagonist in the series. He is a large, anthropomorphic purple pig with a pair of prominent buck teeth, a dark blue mohawk, and a dark purple gemstone embedded in his forehead. His appearance is completed by a black vest, spiked gauntlets, a red neck collar, and dark red suspenders. When attempting to blend into human society, he adopts a more subdued look, wearing a light brown tie and a dark sage office jacket. In his most desperate confrontation, he temporarily transforms himself into a giant, masked Ranborg.
In terms of personality, Kabaton is initially defined by his snarky, gruff, and arrogant demeanor. He takes pleasure in belittling and harming those he considers weak, yet he quickly cowers before anyone who demonstrates superior strength. Despite his brutish nature, he possesses a sharp memory, notably remembering the names of his enemies. A defining and recurring character trait is his immense gluttony, as he is constantly eating and often burns calories to fuel his powers, requiring him to overeat to recover.
His primary motivation as a villain is straightforward: to capture Princess Ellee on the orders of the Empress of the Undergu Empire. He approaches this mission with a sense of overconfidence, viewing the people of Sky Land and Earth as obstacles. However, his motivations are largely driven by a fear of his master and a desire for self-preservation, as failure carries deadly consequences. This is evident when he is threatened by Empress Undergu, which pushes him to become more serious and store up energy for a final, desperate battle.
Kabaton plays the role of the first major threat the Cures must overcome. His constant scheming and direct confrontations force Sora Harewataru, the heroine who becomes Cure Sky, to repeatedly transform and defend the princess. He is responsible for creating most of the early Ranborgs by channeling Undergu Energy into objects, from cherry blossom trees to UFO toys and cable cars. In a notable scheme, he even infiltrates Sorashido Academy to steal food and cause chaos. His actions inadvertently lead to key developments, such as when his mockery of Mashiro as a side character helped inspire her to become Cure Prism.
His key relationship is with Sora, whom he regards as his main enemy due to her interference and opposing morals. He openly mocks her dream of becoming a hero, even tearing pages from her hero diary, but is consistently shocked by her growing strength. Ironically, his eventual defeat and salvation lead to a complete reversal of this dynamic. After Cure Sky saves him from being executed by lightning by the Empress, Kabaton experiences a profound change. He acknowledges Sora’s strength, realizes that true power lies in protecting others, and decides to abandon his villainous life.
Kabaton undergoes significant development. He begins as a cruel and comically arrogant villain, but after his redemption, he becomes noticeably nicer. He later settles down in Sorashido City, starting a new, peaceful life as a sweet potato seller. In a final act of heroism, he even returns to help protect the citizens of Sky Land alongside another former enemy.
Kabaton possesses several notable abilities tied to his villainous nature. He can generate black smoke to blind opponents and uses potent fart attacks, which can both stun enemies and, later, purify Ranborgs. He is able to shrink his size to pretend to be a harmless piglet, uses the gem on his forehead to teleport away, and specializes in summoning Ranborgs from ordinary objects. His most extreme power was exhibited during his final assault, where he absorbed a massive amount of energy to transform his own body into a powerful, giant Ranborg.
