Description
Mashirō is a supporting character from the anime Acro Trip. He appears as a small, animal-like mascot who serves and supports the magical girl Berry Blossom. However, his current form hides a past that is far more complex. Originally a human named Mashima Mashirō, he was once a spiky-haired boy with a strong desire to stand out and be admired by others. During his youth, he dreamed of becoming an evil overlord who commanded respect, a childhood aspiration he later came to regard as an embarrassing part of his history.
Mashirō's background is deeply intertwined with the antagonist Chrome. The two were classmates, and Mashirō initially acted as a bully toward Chrome. Through a series of misunderstandings, however, they ended up sharing the goal of pursuing a life of villainy. Together, they set their sights on joining Ōmizo Technica, a prominent local company rumored to be involved in shady dealings. Both were hired as new recruits, and they competed for the position of leader of the evil organization Fossa Magna, which Ōmizo Technica secretly controlled. In a contest to decide who would become the new leader, Chrome won but attempted to forfeit the victory out of a sense of inadequacy. This infuriated Mashirō, who attacked Chrome in a fit of rage. As punishment, the company president transformed Mashirō into a small, beast-like mascot, stripping him of his human form.
In his current role, Mashirō serves as Berry Blossom's mascot and behind-the-scenes supporter. He is responsible for crafting her magical wand and provides guidance and assistance during her battles. Despite his small and unassuming appearance, he is a capable strategist and possesses a deep understanding of how the evil organization operates. His personality retains traces of his former ambition and pride, and he often comes across as sharp or sarcastic. Nevertheless, he has developed a genuine commitment to supporting the magical girl and helping others, even if he rarely admits it openly.
Mashirō's key relationships include his complex bond with Chrome, his former rival who is now the leader of Fossa Magna, and his partnership with Berry Blossom, whose earnest and somewhat naive nature contrasts with his own cynical edge. He also interacts with the main protagonist Chizuko Date, who becomes involved with Fossa Magna as a strategist, though Mashirō is initially suspicious of her involvement.
Throughout the story, Mashirō undergoes development as he reconciles with his past and finds new purpose in his role as a mascot. His transformation from a human with grand ambitions into a small creature serving the side of good reflects themes of humility and redemption. His notable abilities include crafting magical tools, providing tactical support, and possessing extensive knowledge of the inner workings of the evil organization.
