Description
Koike-sensei is a homeroom teacher at the elementary school attended by Kenichi Mitsuba and Kemuzou Kemumaki in the anime Ninja Hattori-kun. He is an adult man with a chubby build, curly hair, and often a mustache, and he wears glasses. He lives with his mother, whom he fears deeply, especially regarding her homemade cakes.

In the classroom, Koike-sensei presents himself as a strict and imposing figure who takes his teaching responsibilities seriously. He frequently reprimands students who misbehave or fail to complete their homework, and he values discipline and hard work. Despite this no-nonsense exterior, he has a kind heart and genuinely cares about the well-being of his pupils. Outside of school, he is more vulnerable and often struggles with personal matters. He is nervous around women and has experienced two failed dates. He is also intimidated by his mother, which leaves him feeling downtrodden in his home life.

Koike-sensei's primary motivation is to be an effective educator, but he also yearns for romantic happiness. He has a strong affection for Aiko-sensei, the music and cooking teacher, whose calm and kind nature puts him at ease. He frequently seeks help from the ninja boy Hattori to manage situations such as impressing Aiko-sensei or extricating himself from conflicting personal appointments. His desire to avoid his mother's disapproval also drives many of his actions.

In the story, Koike-sensei serves as a comedic supporting character whose authority is often undercut by his own personal foibles. He appears in many school-based episodes as the disciplinarian, creating obstacles for Kenichi and his friends, but also as a figure who occasionally needs the assistance of others. His bumbling attempts at romance and his strained relationship with his mother provide recurring humor.

Koike-sensei maintains a friendly relationship with Hattori, confiding in him about personal problems and even asking him to use ninja techniques to help with tasks like taking his place at an event. He also has a good rapport with Hattori's younger brother Shinzo, once consoling him when he was lost. With Kenichi and Kemumaki, he is primarily their teacher, but his interactions are often colored by their mischievous behavior. He admires Aiko-sensei from afar and feels more comfortable around her than most women.

Over the course of the series, Koike-sensei remains largely static as a character, continuing to balance his professional responsibilities with his often-disastrous private life. He occasionally shows small signs of increased confidence, especially in his pursuit of Aiko-sensei, but his core personality of strictness mixed with vulnerability persists. He possesses no special abilities; his role is grounded in everyday school life, and his comedic value comes from his exaggerated personal struggles and the contrast between his authoritative job and his ineffective handling of his own problems.
