TV-Series
Description
Golg Boddole Zer serves as the supreme commander of the Zentradi forces, specifically the colossal Boddole Zer Main Fleet, which in the television series comprises 4,795,122 ships. This fleet is also identified as the 118th Zentradi Main Fleet. His primary role in the story is that of the central antagonist, as he is the one who orders his subordinate, Vrlitwhai Kridanik, to track down a crashed Supervision Army vessel, an event that directly initiates the conflict known as Space War I between the Zentradi and humanity.

In terms of personality, Boddole Zer is portrayed as a rigid and unyielding enforcer of traditional Zentradi military doctrine. He is a staunch believer in the established order of his society and views any deviation from it as a dangerous contamination. His motivations are driven by the need to preserve this order at any cost. As he witnesses the spread of human culture, including emotions, intimacy between men and women, and music, among his subordinates, he perceives these traits as an existential threat to the discipline and purity of the Zentradi way of life. His ultimate goal becomes the complete annihilation of this cultural contamination, which he intends to achieve by destroying the SDF-1 Macross, the defecting Zentradi forces who have embraced human culture, and the planet Earth itself.

Boddole Zer's role in the story is largely defined by his position as the distant, ultimate authority who looms over the main conflict. He is first directly encountered when captured human officers are brought before him for an interview, marking the first verbal communication between the two races. In this encounter, his confusion regarding human culture and intimacy is evident. His key relationships are primarily with his field commanders, particularly Vrlitwhai Kridanik, whom he orders to complete the mission. He observes the failures of these subordinates, who become culturally contaminated, and ultimately decides that they, along with their human captors, must be erased.

The character undergoes development in that he transforms from a commander issuing orders from afar to a direct participant in the final battle. As the conflict escalates, Boddole Zer becomes more proactive, eventually ordering his entire main fleet to converge on Earth. In the climactic battle, he personally commands the orbital bombardment that devastates the Earth's surface, resulting in fewer than one million human survivors. His development is a progression from ideological purist to genocidal executioner, as he seeks to permanently solve the problem of cultural contamination by eliminating all its sources.

Regarding his notable abilities and nature, Boddole Zer is not a conventional character. He exists as a biological command computer, fused with the core of his immense flagship, a mobile fortress that spans approximately 600 kilometers. He has been synced with this vessel's organic systems for 120,000 cycles, effectively governing both the fleet and his own existence as a living warship. His flagship is equipped with a superweapon known as the Gol Gantz Cannon, which is capable of destroying entire armadas. This fusion with his fortress creates a critical vulnerability; destroying the command computer at the ship's heart causes the entire structure to collapse. In the film adaptation, he possesses a relic such as an ancient music box, indicating a prior or deeper awareness of Protoculture artifacts and the power of song. Boddole Zer meets his end when an unorthodox tactic allows a fighter to penetrate his fortress and destroy his command sphere, leading to his death and the destruction of his flagship.
