Linn Shaochin, whose name is also rendered as Lynn Shaochin or Shaochin Lynn, is a supporting character in the television series The Super Dimension Fortress Macross. He is the uncle of the central character Lynn Minmay and the father of Lynn Kaifun. Together with his wife Lynn Feichun, he owns and operates the Nyan-Nyan Chinese restaurant located in Macross City aboard the SDF-1 Macross. When Minmay moves from Yokohama to South Ataria Island in pursuit of her dream of becoming a singer, she comes to live with her uncle and aunt. Shaochin serves as a parental figure while Minmay is separated from her own parents during the chaos following the Zentradi attack and the ship’s accidental fold to the edge of the solar system. He is notably more lenient and supportive than Minmay’s biological parents, allowing her considerable freedom to pursue her ambitions as a singer and idol. His primary role in the story is as a grounding familial presence, providing a home and stability for Minmay and later for his son Kaifun when he joins the Macross. Shaochin’s character does not undergo significant development; he remains a constant, steady figure focused on running his restaurant and caring for his family. He has no special abilities beyond his work as a restaurateur and his practical, down-to-earth nature.
