Description
Rubel Hossen is a Middle Eastern fishing intern living in Housing Complex C under Seichi Koshide's supervision. As the most fluent Japanese speaker among the interns, he acts as their representative and translator, facilitating communication between the foreign workers and the complex's residents.
Initially considerate of cultural differences, Rubel strives to foster mutual respect between the interns and Japanese tenants. Tensions escalate, however, following disturbing incidents involving animal carcasses and human disappearances. When Japanese residents blame the interns, Rubel actively defends his community. He specifically refutes accusations about contaminating food during a shaved ice party, citing religious prohibitions against consuming blood.
Significant conflict arises when fellow interns falsely implicate Kanchan Mia (Kan) in the crimes to appease residents and protect their jobs. Rubel confronts the interns, chastising them for betraying and scapegoating Kan, whom he regards as a brother. Disillusioned by the escalating prejudice and internal discord, Rubel abandons Housing Complex C. His departure occurs amid the deteriorating relations between the groups and his distress over Kan's willingness to accept blame as a sacrificial peace offering.
