Description
M. X is the primary antagonist of the later arc in the anime and manga series Princess Knight. He is introduced as a towering, imposing figure clad entirely in boxy red armor, which gives him a mechanical and inhuman appearance. His background is that of a conquering warlord who rules the X‑Union, a neighboring, proto‑fascist federation of nations that seeks to dominate the three kingdoms of Silverland, Goldland, and Charcoal‑land. He operates from a position of overwhelming military strength and cold ambition, viewing the smaller kingdoms as mere obstacles to his expansionist goals.

In terms of personality, M. X is ruthless, calculating, and utterly merciless. He shows no empathy or concern for the lives he destroys and treats his allies as disposable tools. When Duke Duralumin stages a coup in Silverland under his orders, M. X later arrives and makes it clear that he has no intention of allowing anyone else to rule, even as a puppet monarch. He dismisses the mentally unstable Baron Nylon with contempt, keeping him around only as a buffoon. His cold pragmatism and absolute belief in his own power define his character.

His primary motivation is conquest. He wants to annex Silverland and presumably the other kingdoms, establishing the X‑Union as the dominant power in the region. He is not driven by personal vengeance or ideology so much as a desire for total control. This makes him a more formidable and impersonal threat than the earlier villains.

M. X’s role in the story is that of the final, overarching threat. After Duke Duralumin’s coup fails and Nylon briefly seizes power, M. X arrives with his armies and takes direct command. He orders the execution of the King and Queen of Silverland, who are dropped into the sea, and he occupies the castle. This forces the protagonists Sapphire and Franz to confront him in a desperate final battle. M. X represents the ultimate test of Sapphire’s courage and her fight to reclaim her kingdom.

His key relationships are largely adversarial. He commands Duke Duralumin as a subordinate, but has no loyalty to him. He dismisses Baron Nylon as a foolish nuisance. His direct interactions are with Sapphire and Franz, whom he fights personally. He also briefly contends with the angel Tink, who calls down a lightning strike on him. There is no personal history or emotional bond with any character; he is a force of pure opposition.

Over the course of the final confrontation, M. X demonstrates notable physical abilities. He is an immensely strong warrior, capable of wielding a large weapon and fighting Sapphire and Franz simultaneously. He survives a lightning bolt that strikes him from heaven, rising from apparent death to smash the castle with his bare hands, causing it to collapse. This near‑supernatural endurance and strength make him a terrifying opponent. However, he is ultimately defeated when the castle falls on him, crushing him to death.

M. X does not undergo any character development or redemption. He remains a single‑minded conqueror until the end, and his defeat marks the end of the external threat to Silverland. His role is to provide a climactic, larger‑than‑life villain who forces the heroes to unite all their resources and summon divine intervention. After his death, the kingdom is restored, and peace returns.
