Description
Professor Go Gakujin is a scientist and a key member of the Experts of Justice, the special operations group of the International Police Organization (IPO). He holds a leadership position, specifically heading the IPO’s Beijing division, and serves as a scientific advisor and strategist in the organization's fight against the criminal syndicate known as Big Fire. His scientific expertise is centered on the Shizuma Drive, a revolutionary energy source that the world relies upon.

His appearance and fighting style are distinctive. He dresses in traditional Chinese clothes and is known by the nickname The Star of Knowledge. In combat, he wields a pair of oversized iron war fans, utilizing an "Iron Fan" technique to block attacks and deliver precise counter-strikes. Go Gakujin is typically calm, reserved, and analytical, favoring intellectual discourse and speaking in an economical manner. His eyes are characteristically narrowed, only opening wide in rare moments of intense determination or passion.

A tragic event from his past, the Bashtarle Tragedy, defines his character and motivations. This global catastrophe was caused by the premature activation of an untested Shizuma Drive prototype. Go Gakujin, along with colleagues including Genya and Dr. Franken von Vogler, was a survivor of this disaster. However, he carries a heavy burden of guilt because he and other scientists overruled von Vogler’s cautions to authorize the deadly test, leading to a cover-up that officially scapegoated von Vogler. Having been a protégé of the Drive's creator, Professor Shizuma, Go Gakujin now seeks both to uphold his late mentor’s legacy and to atone for his own role in the tragedy, which fuels his resolve to prevent future catastrophes.

In the story, his actions are driven by this dual pursuit of innovation and redemption. He often serves as the group's moral compass, tempering strategic decisions with the quiet wish to correct his past mistakes. His past trauma and sense of responsibility shape his alliances and strategies in the ongoing conflict with Big Fire. While he mentors younger agents, he avoids overt camaraderie, preferring to guide through terse instruction and intellectual exchange. His documented appearances and development are confined to the OVA series Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Stood Still.
