Description
Mike Davis is the protagonist of the anime film Penguin's Memory: Shiawase Monogatari. He is a penguin who served as a soldier in a conflict referred to as the Delta War. Upon returning home, he is deeply traumatized by his combat experiences and finds himself estranged from his family and friends. Unable to cope with the expectations of those around him, who press him to talk about the war he wishes to forget, he leaves his hometown and drifts aimlessly. He eventually arrives in Lake City, where he takes a quiet job as a librarian at a local library. There, he meets Jill, a young woman who dreams of becoming a professional singer. Mike is a reserved and introverted character, carrying the weight of his wartime memories. His motivations are centered on finding peace and a sense of normalcy after the horrors he has endured. His relationship with Jill becomes central to his emotional journey, as she represents hope and a chance at a new life. Throughout the story, Mike slowly begins to confront his past and open himself to the possibility of happiness. As a veteran, he possesses combat skills, but his defining abilities are his resilience and his quiet capacity for empathy. His development traces a path from a shell-shocked, aimless wanderer to someone willing to invest in love and a future, though the process is fraught with difficulty and self-doubt.
