Description
The King of Fenarinarsa is the sovereign ruler of the magical kingdom known as Fenarinarsa, the land of dreams in the sky, and he is the biological father of the protagonist, the fairy princess Minky Momo. In some international versions of the series, this character is also known as King Kuthbert. The king and the queen of Fenarinarsa, who is sometimes referred to internationally as Queen Yolanda, awakened from a millennial sleep to discover that their kingdom was in grave danger. Fenarinarsa, once connected to Earth, was slowly drifting away from the planet's orbit and facing the possibility of disappearing entirely. The cause of this crisis was the people of Earth, who had become cynical and lost their hopes and dreams, thereby weakening the magical energy that sustained the king's realm.
Faced with this existential threat to his kingdom, the King of Fenarinarsa made the decision to send his only daughter, the twelve-year-old Momo, on a vital mission to Earth. He and the queen believed that if their daughter could help the people of Earth rediscover their faith in their dreams, the bond between the two worlds would be restored. The king and queen arranged for Momo to be adopted by a kind, childless human couple who ran a pet care business, and they entrusted her with a magic wand that would allow her to transform into an adult with the skills needed to solve various problems. The success of her mission was measured by the appearance of jewels on the royal crown of Fenarinarsa; each time Momo successfully brought happiness to someone and helped restore their dreams, a jewel would appear, and the kingdom would return to Earth once twelve jewels had been collected.
As a character, the King of Fenarinarsa primarily serves as a distant, benevolent authority figure who sets the story's central quest in motion. He is defined by his love for his daughter and his sense of responsibility as a monarch to save his kingdom and its connection to Earth. His key relationships are with his wife, the queen, and their daughter, Momo. While he is the one who sends her away, it is an act born of necessity and trust in her abilities, rather than a lack of care. In the original series, after Momo loses her magic and dies in an accident, she is reborn as the biological child of her human parents, and at this point, the King of Fenarinarsa is no longer considered her father.
The character's development is largely tied to the fate of his kingdom. In the events of the sequel series, which features a different princess from the undersea kingdom of Marinarsa, the King of Fenarinarsa appears again. As the story progresses and the crisis over people's dreams worsens, the hope of restoring Fenarinarsa fades. Ultimately, the king and queen of Fenarinarsa make the difficult decision to flee Earth, signifying a definitive end to the original mission and the separation of the two worlds. No notable abilities are documented for this character beyond his status as the ruler of a magical kingdom.
