Description
Kōta Hoshikawa is an ordinary third-grade elementary school student who becomes the only human on Earth to learn the true nature of Exkaiser, the leader of the Space Police Kaisers. He is a student at Asahi-Dai Elementary School in class 3-B and lives with his father Jinichi, a newspaper editor; his mother Yōko; his older sister Fūko; and the family dog, Mario. Kōta first encounters Exkaiser when he witnesses a ball of light descending into his family’s garage, which turns out to be Exkaiser’s energy form. After Exkaiser merges with the Hoshikawa family’s car, the two form a secret friendship. From that point onward, Kōta becomes the Kaisers’ trusted ally and their vital link to human society, receiving a special communication bracelet from Exkaiser that allows him to call for help and coordinate with the team during battles.
Kōta is a bright, adventurous, and courageous boy with a strong sense of justice. Despite his young age, he does not hesitate to stand up against the Space Pirate Geisters when they threaten his friends, family, or the treasures of Earth. He is naturally curious and eager to help, often putting himself in harm’s way to assist Exkaiser and the other Kaisers. His motivations are rooted in a desire to protect the people and things he cares about, as well as a deep loyalty to his friend Exkaiser. He is also a typical child who enjoys playing with his classmates, has a crush on a girl named Kotomi Tsukiyama, and sometimes bickers with his sister, but his compassion and bravery consistently shine through in moments of crisis.
Kōta’s role in the story is that of a human partner to Exkaiser and the Kaisers. He serves as their guide to Earth’s customs and culture, often pointing out the true value of items the Geisters mistakenly view as treasures. He frequently participates in the action by providing reconnaissance, alerting the Kaisers to danger, and even directly encouraging them during fights. His presence reinforces the show’s theme that friendship and the intangible bonds between people are the most precious treasures of all.
Key relationships include his friendship with Exkaiser, which forms the emotional core of the series. He also bonds with the other Kaisers, such as the Max Team and the Raker Brothers, treating them as allies and friends. Among his human peers, Kōta interacts frequently with Kotomi Tsukiyama, the girl he admires, and Takumi Kaneari, a wealthy classmate who often tries to show off but eventually becomes a friendly rival. Kōta’s family, especially his father and sister, remain unaware of his secret activities, which forces him to balance his double life.
Throughout the series, Kōta matures as he confronts various challenges posed by the Geisters. He learns to make quick decisions under pressure and grows more confident in his ability to contribute to the team’s success. His bond with Exkaiser deepens with each episode, culminating in a moving farewell when the Kaisers must leave Earth at the end of the story.
Kōta’s notable abilities are not superhuman but stem from his intelligence, bravery, and resourcefulness. He is skilled at using the communication bracelet to signal Exkaiser, and he often devises clever strategies to distract or outwit the Geister minions. His greatest strengths are his unwavering courage and his ability to inspire hope in those around him, both human and robot.
