Description
Guard Fire is a member of the Guard Team, a subgroup of the Space Police Force, in the anime The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird. His alternate form is that of a firetruck, a choice that reflects his lifelong dream, which was to join the Space Police. He came to Earth alongside the rest of the Guard Team and his allies to pursue the antagonist Draias.

In terms of personality, Guard Fire is characterized as rather hotheaded. He becomes angry whenever anyone insults him or, by extension, the nature of his work. This trait is most prominently displayed in an episode where a young friend of the main characters repeatedly insults firetrucks. Guard Fire becomes upset by these remarks, and later visits the child in the hospital to give a sincere lecture about the vital importance of firetrucks, ambulances, and police cars, explaining that these vehicles exist to save people all around the world. This event prompts a change of heart in the child, and demonstrates that beneath his fiery temper, Guard Fire possesses a strong sense of duty and a desire to protect and educate others.

Guard Fire's primary role in the story is as a member of the Earth-bound Space Police Force, fighting against the forces of Draias. He is a crucial component of the Guard Team, as he can combine with two of his teammates, Guard Star and Guard Rescue, to form the larger, more powerful robot known as Guardion. Furthermore, when joined by a fourth member, Guard Wing, all four can combine to form Super Guardion. This combining ability makes him essential to the team's combat strategy against larger enemies. His key relationships are with his fellow Guard Team members, with whom he shares a strong bond of camaraderie as they fight together. Notably, a rivalry seems to exist between Guard Fire and Guard Wing, beginning in a later episode of the series.

Guard Fire does not undergo a dramatic personal transformation over the course of the series, but he does have moments of development that reinforce his character. His encounter with the child who disliked firetrucks serves as a key moment where he actively works to correct a misunderstanding about his purpose. Following the final defeat of Draias, the Space Police decide to live on Earth in their original forms. At this point, Guard Fire takes on the human name Tatsugorou Shinmon.

Regarding his notable abilities, Guard Fire is equipped with a variety of tools befitting his role as a rescue and combat robot. His right forearm houses a water hose called the Strangle Hose, which can be used to restrain enemies. He possesses a pair of back-mounted beam cannons known as the Jet Discharger, which are capable of firing powerful energy beams as well as a high-pressure stream of water. For rescue operations, he can deploy long ladders from his shoulders, called Fire Ladders. These ladders have stairs for easy walking and bending sections at the end to securely grip buildings. He also stores a pair of fire extinguishers within his shoulders. For combat and mobility, Guard Fire can equip a battle helmet with the verbal command Met On, deploy treads from his feet to move at high speeds over ground, and fire a pair of machine guns mounted in his forearm ports. He can also emit red energy rays from the windows on his chest. All of these abilities can be utilized in his humanoid robot form, and some, such as the ladders and extinguishers, are also available in his firetruck vehicle mode.
