TV Special
Description
Korosuke is a robot companion built by Eiichi Kite, the protagonist, based on blueprints from the Kiteretsu Encyclopedia left by his ancestor, Kiteretsu Saisama. Eiichi constructed him at age six using everyday objects: a rubber ball head, a plastic bucket torso, and rubber ball hands. He stands roughly 50 centimeters tall, measures 30 centimeters wide, and weighs about 10 kilograms. His appearance evolved across media: early color comics featured a pink or orange head with a red or yellow body; the 1987 TV special gave him a light yellow head, yellow body, and blue nose; the anime series finalized his look with a light yellow head, orange body, red nose, and red body circles. A miniature samurai sword is always attached to his back, its sheath changing from black in earlier media to red in the anime.
His personality reflects that of a young child, emotionally akin to 2-3 years old. He displays human-like speech, emotions, and occasional bed-wetting, which he asks to keep secret. Naive and often portrayed as unintelligent in the Japanese version, he remains kind and deeply loyal to Eiichi. He frequently assists with inventions but voices concerns if they seem dangerous. His speech includes the pronoun "wagahai" and ends sentences with "nari." Favorite foods differ between media, cake in the manga and croquettes in the anime.
Korosuke's primary bond is with Eiichi, his creator and closest friend, though Korosuke's actions often contribute to his inventions failing. He fosters a friendship with Miyoko Nonohana. His relationship with the bully Buta-Gorilla is adversarial yet occasionally cooperative during crises. A temporary stay with Tongari's family saw Korosuke exploited for chores and falsely blamed for bed-wetting, leading to his departure. After he left, Eiichi built another robot, Mame-Koro, who views Korosuke as an older brother.
The anime's conclusion reveals a key aspect of his background through time travel: Korosuke's design was based on Kiteretsu Saisama's deceased son. This connection leads Korosuke to remain in the past to support Saisama, choosing not to return with Eiichi to their original time.
In spin-off media, particularly video games, Korosuke appears in varied roles. In the Famicom title, he follows Eiichi as an AI companion but complicates gameplay due to shared health mechanics and vulnerability to hazards. He stars as the sole playable character in *Bouken Ooedo Juraki*, using his katana for standard attacks and aerial spins, plus a shrink gun to neutralize enemies. He is also a selectable character in *Choujikuu Sugoroku*, a time-travel themed board game.
Across all media, his core traits as a well-intentioned, accident-prone robot with childlike innocence and loyalty remain consistent, even as his narrative role expands into heroic or gameplay-centric contexts in adaptations.
