Description
Balga is a character who appears in the 2007 anime film Fist of the North Star: Legend of Raoh: Chapter of Fierce Fighting, serving as a supporting figure within the narrative of Raoh's final days. In the original Japanese version of the film, he is voiced by Masaki Terasoma. His background is tragic, defined by a fall from grace. Balga was once one of the generals who led Raoh's legion in the past, a man noted for his excellent military prowess. However, he was ill-suited for survival in the desolate post-apocalyptic world, lacking the cunning and wisdom needed to thrive. This led to severe economic hardship; his wife died, and his son lost his sight due to malnutrition. Reduced to a humiliating existence, he was forced to work as a laborer pulling a plow like a draft animal for a tyrannical warlord named Kogetsu, merely to obtain food for his child.

Balga's personality, as glimpsed through his actions and predicament, is that of a once-proud warrior who has been thoroughly broken by circumstance, yet retains a deep-seated sense of honor and a desire to protect his family. His primary motivation becomes the liberation of himself, his son, and the other oppressed people held at Kogetsu's farm. He is unable to achieve this on his own and is ultimately rescued by the protagonist, Kenshiro, who helps instigate a revolution that frees the captives and eliminates Kogetsu. Following this event, Balga is seen leading the survivors of the farm, having reclaimed a measure of his former dignity.

In the broader role of the film, Balga serves as a key subordinate and commentator within Raoh's army. After the Nanto army successfully captures Raoh's castle, the strategist Rihaku questions Balga regarding Raoh's sudden decision to abandon his dream of conquest in order to face Kenshiro directly. Balga responds by articulating a core aspect of Raoh's philosophy: that Raoh is a conqueror who serves heaven and brings peace to the land, a principle he was taught by Yuria. According to Balga, Raoh is driven to fight not for victory, but to find ultimate satisfaction in being defeated by a stronger opponent, which would bring him peace. In this capacity, Balga acts as a loyal interpreter of Raoh's will, providing insight into the warlord's final motivations to the audience and other characters.

Key relationships define his development. His bond with his blind son is the primary catalyst for his initial desperation and subsequent redemption. His relationship with Kenshiro is one of gratitude, as the Hokuto Shinken master is directly responsible for his liberation. Finally, his role as a general under Raoh establishes a relationship of loyalty and understanding, as he is able to articulate the conqueror's deepest intentions to others. Regarding notable abilities, Balga is described as having been excellent in military power, indicating he is a skilled and formidable fighter, though the full extent of his techniques is not elaborated upon. His primary value to Raoh's legion is as a reliable and respected military officer.
