Description
Gideon Ragnason, also known by the alias Red, is the central figure of this narrative. He is the older brother of the Hero, Ruti, and was once a respected member of her adventuring party, serving as the vice-captain of the Bahamut Knights. His journey begins not with a call to adventure, but with a quiet expulsion; he is ousted from the Hero's Party by the mage Ares, who argues that Gideon's rapidly diminishing combat utility makes him a liability.

Gideon's circumstances are defined by his divine blessing, the "Sign of the Guide". This blessing granted him an unusual starting advantage, giving him a level equivalent to a veteran knight from birth, which made him incredibly powerful in his youth. However, this blessing has a critical flaw: it provides no unique skills and caps his growth early, ensuring that other party members with more specialized blessings will quickly surpass him. To compensate for these limitations, Gideon diligently cultivated a wide array of practical skills, including swordsmanship, basic alchemy, first aid, cooking, and negotiation, becoming a highly knowledgeable and tactical fighter. His true strength lies in his experience, intellect, and strategic thinking rather than raw, overwhelming power.

In terms of personality, Gideon is defined by his deep-seated humility and his genuine desire for a peaceful, inconspicuous life. After being banished, he fully embraces this goal. He relocates to the remote frontier town of Zoltan, changes his name to Red, and begins working as a D-rank adventurer, focusing on gathering herbs. His ultimate ambition is to save enough money to open his own apothecary, a dream that represents his rejection of the hero's violent path in favor of a life dedicated to healing and quiet community service. Though he is exceptionally kind, affable, and always willing to help his friends and neighbors, he harbors a degree of self-doubt, believing he was a burden to his former party.

Within the story, Gideon's role is to provide a grounded perspective, contrasting the grand, often dehumanizing destiny of a hero with the simple, meaningful connections of everyday life. He does not seek out conflict, but his past as a highly skilled knight often forces him to protect his new home when trouble arises. His primary role evolves into being the emotional anchor for several key characters. His most significant relationship is with Rit, a former adventurer and princess who has long harbored feelings for him. She seeks him out in Zoltan, moves into his home, and becomes his partner in both life and work, with their romance forming the emotional heart of the story. His other central relationship is with his sister, Ruti. He deeply understands the curse of her Hero blessing, which suppresses her emotions, and he remains her most important source of emotional stability. Eventually, she renounces her role as Hero to live with him. He also maintains a strong bond of respect with other former comrades like the high elf Yarandrala, who left the party in outrage over his treatment.

Gideon undergoes significant development, primarily in his journey from a man resigned to his perceived obsolescence to someone who finds genuine happiness and purpose on his own terms. Initially, he passively accepts Ares's harsh words and leaves without a fight. But as he builds a life in Zoltan, defending his friends and his apothecary, he slowly discards his self-doubt. His arc culminates in a direct confrontation with Ares, where he finally puts an end to the former ally's jealousy-fueled madness to protect his sister and his new family, solidifying his departure from his old life.

Gideon's notable abilities are a reflection of his unique path. He is a master swordsman capable of holding his own against powerful foes, often relying on his superior technique and tactical acumen rather than magic, which he cannot use. His "Swift Mastery" skill grants him incredible bursts of speed, allowing him to move at over 200 kilometers per hour. He is also a proficient apothecary, using his "First Aid Mastery" to stabilize patients and his knowledge of herbs to create effective medicines. Despite possessing the power to annihilate most normal threats, he deliberately chooses to use a cheap copper sword and keep a low profile, embodying his philosophy that true strength lies not in power, but in the choice to live a life of peace.
