Description
Izliz Swordflail, also known by the epithets Wandering Balcony and the Demon of the Peninsula, is a powerful necromancer from the other world who served as the second-ranked imperial court sorcerer to the Byandy Empire. She is the former necromancy master of the protagonist known as Corpse God, having purchased him as a slave when he was ten years old after recognizing his latent magical potential.

In terms of appearance, Izliz presents a striking and unmistakable figure. Her face, if she still possesses one, is perpetually obscured by a bovine skull mask, specifically that of a milk cow, accompanied by an overhanging veil. She has long, light-colored hair and wears a tall, pointed hat adorned with two protruding horns and a long chain of vertebrae attached to its tip. Her attire consists of dark, dancer-like garments beneath red robes loosely connected by gold chains, which reveal a buxom, humanoid form with skin that appears smooth and ageless, suggesting she has transcended normal human mortality.

Izliz possesses a stolid and coolly composed personality, never beating around the bush and always offering her opinions or assessments in a straightforward, if blunt, manner. She acts with the firm hand and unwavering self-assurance of someone whose skills are as formidable as her rank would suggest. Her independent nature, combined with her status as a necromancer, sedate way of speaking, and cynicism toward court politics, lends her a detached air. However, this detachment is not absolute. Izliz operates under a core philosophy that she treats her possessions with more care than she does people, and this claim is validated by the meticulous attention she gives to her belongings and those she considers under her protection.

Her primary motivation and driving force stem from this possessive care, particularly as it applies to her prized pupil, Corpse God. She demonstrated this fiercely when she confronted and overwhelmingly defeated Shagrua Lugrid, an adversary connected to Corpse God's downfall, as an act of revenge. Following this encounter, and after the collapse of the Byandy Empire, Izliz eventually began traveling alongside Shagrua Lugrid herself, forming an unexpected alliance.

Within the story, Izliz's most significant role is that of Corpse God's mentor. She not only taught him the fundamentals of necromancy but also profoundly shaped his worldview, especially his view of human souls as cherished belongings to be protected. Her training included specific lessons on techniques such as netherworld overflow and constructing a temple, as well as the dangerous method of sympathizing with the dead by sharing one's senses with spirits. Her guidance helped Corpse God learn to protect his soul during such processes. Beyond her relationship with her pupil, Izliz is noted for her tenure in the imperial court, where she held the second seat. While publicly regarded as second only to Arius Sabaramond VII, she maintained that Arius held the highest rank due to political aptitude rather than superior magical ability, and she considered herself truly deserving of the first seat. According to some accounts, her necromantic abilities are among the finest in her world, surpassing even those of Corpse God.

Key relationships define much of her character. Her bond with Corpse God is central; she regards him as someone with an eternal boyish heart who devotes himself entirely to those he considers kin, a trait she believes stems from his lack of a strong sense of independence. Her relationship with Shagrua Lugrid evolves dramatically from adversary to traveling companion. She is also noted to have trained Rizdilusia, indicating she took on students based on perceived magical potential rather than any other criteria.

In terms of development, Izliz represents a figure of established power who has already transcended the usual constraints of her world, including aging and mortality, allowing her to exist for an exceptionally long time. After the empire's fall, she chose to reside on the Byandy Peninsula, a location that became feared as her domain, cementing her demonic reputation. Her notable abilities include high-level necromancy, mastery over spirits, the capacity to train others to reach immense power, magical prowess sufficient to completely overwhelm powerful adversaries such as the undead Cycling Shadow Dragon Blokadow, and the wisdom to understand the deeper mechanics of magic and the human soul. Multiple official translations have rendered her name alternately as Izliz or Easlies, and her surname as Swordflail or Swordfrail.
