Description
Leo Shishiō is a brilliant scientist and the father of Guy Shishiō, the main pilot of GaoGaiGar. Recognized as one of the world’s top ten intellects, he serves as the executive supervisor and head of research and development for the Earth defense organization GGG. His expertise spans robotics, artificial intelligence, aerospace engineering, and G‑Stone technology, an energy source brought to Earth by the alien lion Galeon. After Guy was critically injured in a collision with the extraterrestrial EI‑01, Leo used the original G‑Stone to rebuild his son as a powerful cyborg, saving his life and giving him superhuman abilities.

Despite being in his seventies, Leo possesses an exuberant and childlike personality. He speaks with youthful energy, refers to himself as "boku," and dislikes being treated as old. He often zooms around GGG headquarters on a custom‑built jet skate, a device that also serves as an improvised weapon—his so‑called Leo Lariat strike is surprisingly powerful for a man his age. His love for invention extends to whimsical contraptions such as a fully automatic nail clipper and a machine that brews kombu tea, many of which disguise advanced technology. Beneath his eccentric exterior, however, he is a calm and sharp‑minded scientist during operations, offering precise advice and unwavering support to the GGG team.

Leo’s primary motivation is the protection of Earth and his family, especially his son Guy. He carries a deep sense of responsibility for the G‑Stone’s power, having once been tempted by its potential himself, and he watches over Guy’s battles with both paternal concern and scientific fascination. He also has a strong bond with his older brother Liger Shishiō, a NASA scientist, and his niece Renais Cardiff Shishiō, whom he treats as family.

In the story, Leo is a key figure behind GGG’s technological arsenal. He develops the GaoMachines and the cyborg infrastructure that enables GaoGaiGar to combine and fight the Zonders and later the Machine Primevals. He also provides crucial support during the Jupiter campaign, piloting the reconnaissance craft Muramuku to locate the enemy’s weak point. During that mission, his craft is destroyed, and he is presumed killed in action, but the energy of The Power allows him to transcend into a spiritual existence. He later communicates with his son from beyond, offering guidance and helping to unlock new power.

Leo’s notable abilities are largely intellectual: he is a master inventor and a leading authority on G‑Stone applications. His physical feats, accomplished via his jet skate, defy his age, and his calm problem‑solving under pressure makes him an indispensable asset even when not on the front line. His legacy endures through the technologies he created and the courage he passed on to his son.
