Description
D.J., also known as Tripledacus when combined with his brothers, is a Maximal from the Beast Wars II series. He is one of three Jointron Brothers, alongside Gimlet and Motorarm. D.J. is the eldest of the three siblings, though this seniority does not translate into maturity, as he is considered the least mature of the group. His alternate mode is an organic cicada.

The defining characteristic of D.J. and his brothers is their relentlessly festive and eccentric nature. They are perpetually in a partying mood, rarely taking situations seriously and often behaving in ways that other Maximals find obnoxious. Their behavior is so disruptive that they were originally stationed at a base far removed from their comrades. D.J., in particular, has a deep love for music, which he prioritizes far above the concerns of war. He will create and play music at every opportunity. A notable habit is his tendency to inject poorly pronounced Spanish phrases into his speech, which typically confuses those he is speaking with. Another less dignified trait is a physical reaction he experiences after consuming excessive amounts of oil.

D.J. and his brothers were dispatched by Maximal Command on a mission to the planet Trius, but their spacecraft encountered problems and crash-landed on Gaia instead. Upon their arrival, they immediately combined into Tripledacus and engaged both the native Maximals and Predacons, initially mistaking the Maximals for enemies. After the misunderstanding was resolved, they introduced themselves to Lio Convoy's team. Despite the other Maximals’ exasperation with their behavior, the Jointrons joined their forces on Gaia.

Their primary motivation is to defeat the Predacons, though they pursue this goal with a self-serving and often chaotic approach. They are highly competitive and believe in their own superiority, frequently acting without coordination with the main Maximal group. They once took over a Maximal shuttle and converted it into a party house, using it as bait to lure enemy forces. On another occasion, they attempted to take sole credit for a victory that required the intervention of their allies. Their internal rivalries are pronounced; the brothers once engaged in a silly contest to determine which of them was the leader, which nearly led to their capture by the Predacons.

Key relationships among the Jointrons are defined by their constant, good-natured bickering and unwavering loyalty to each other when it matters most. Their bond is the cornerstone of their greatest asset: combination. When D.J., Gimlet, and Motorarm unite, they form the combined giant known as Tripledacus. D.J. serves as the upper torso and head of this combiner. Unlike many other combining robots, the minds of the three brothers do not fully merge; they remain distinct and discuss their actions in tandem, which results in Tripledacus inheriting their cheerful and scatterbrained personality.

Throughout the story, the brothers undergo minor development as they learn to temper their arrogance with cooperation. An episode where they are incapacitated by a bacteria bomb and must learn to pool their energy to combine taught them a lesson in humility and teamwork. Despite their flaws, their immense combined power makes them a vital asset to Lio Convoy's forces, often turning the tide in major battles against the Predacons and other threats like the Space Pirate Seacons.

In terms of abilities, D.J. is both musically and combatively inclined. His primary individual weapons are the Seven-Year Swords, which are stored within his wings. While these blades are sharp enough to slice through large trees in a single stroke, D.J. prefers to use them as percussive instruments, snapping them together to create music. He also possesses the ability to generate powerful and specialized sound waves that can be heard from up to ten thousand kilometers away. When combined to form Tripledacus, these swords can be used as projectile missiles, and the combined form possesses immense strength, nigh-invulnerability, and a powerful Triple Blaster. Following the defeat of Unicron, D.J. returned to Cybertron as part of Tripledacus to assist in the planet's reconstruction.
