Description
Gimlet is the youngest of the three Jointron brothers, a trio of Transformers who can combine to form the giant warrior Tripledacus. As a member of the Maximal faction, he hails from the planet Eukaris, though he later spends considerable time on the planet Gaia. His physical alternate mode is a large, durable red lobster, a form that heavily influences his combat abilities and personality. In some continuities, a falling-out leads him to abandon the Maximals and join the Predacons.

In terms of personality, Gimlet is defined by his relentless optimism and love for celebration. He is a dancing fool who never gets down, even in the worst situations, preferring to party, have a good time, and see what happens next. He is particularly fond of jumping and dancing to the music provided by his older brother, DJ, and his movements are so energetic that his large claws often become a destructive force in confined spaces, clobbering everything around him. He treats battle as an extension of his playful nature, approaching warfare like a competitive sport and keeping a mental tally, or scorecard, of the Predacons he has defeated. To complete his flamboyant persona, Gimlet mixes broken Spanish phrases into his speech, a trait shared with his brothers that often makes him difficult to understand; he lets his rhythm speak for him instead.

Gimlet's primary motivation is to have fun and prove himself. Along with DJ and Motorarm, he was sent by Maximal command to the planet Trius, though their ship encountered problems and forced them to land on Gaia. Eager to prove their might, the Jointrons often act independently of the other Maximals, sometimes going on solo patrols or luring Predacons into traps to claim the credit for their defeat. Despite his party-centric attitude, Gimlet is competitive and seeks to be acknowledged for his skills, once arguing with his brothers over who should be the leader of their group by citing his amphibious nature and ability to keep the beat.

Within the story of Beast Wars II, Gimlet serves as a supporting character and comic relief alongside his brothers. They are often a nuisance to the more serious Maximals like Lio Convoy and Apache, as their antics include commandeering a shuttle and turning it into a party house. Their overconfidence frequently lands them in trouble, such as when they walk into a Predacon trap or are captured due to their infighting, requiring rescue by the main Maximal team. Despite this, they are powerful allies. For instance, when a ramp needed for a launch was broken by the Predacons, Tripledacus used his immense strength to hold it in place, allowing the other Maximals to successfully depart Gaia.

Key relationships define Gimlet's existence. He is the youngest of the Jointron brothers, with DJ being the musical elder sibling and Motorarm the excitable middle brother who focuses on sumo wrestling. Their bond is strong enough to allow them to combine into Tripledacus, though Gimlet’s germaphobia once prevented their combination during a battle involving a bacteria bomb. Outside of his family unit, he interacts frequently with the other Maximals, such as Diver and Tasmania Kid, though often with friction due to the Jointrons' boastful nature. In a unique turn, a "Diorama Story" depicts a version of Gimlet who leaves the Maximals to join the Predacons in the past, where he fights against Tigatron and partners with the Decepticon Blackout. Later continuities, such as the IDW comics, present him as a devoutly religious Transformer who modifies his face with a mouthplate to emulate Optimus Prime.

Gimlet does undergo development, though it is often subtle. Initially, he and his brothers are glory hounds who ignore teamwork and take all the credit for themselves. After nearly being captured by the Predacons due to their refusal to cooperate, they reconsider their silly arguments about leadership and successfully combine to repel the enemy. By the end of the Beast Wars II series, Gimlet and his brothers have matured enough to help with the reconstruction of Cybertron following the defeat of Unicron.

Gimlet possesses several notable abilities and weapons. His robot and lobster mode feature thick, durable armor and powerful claws known as buttagiri, which have vise-like strength capable of crushing a lump of coal into a diamond instantly. Inside these claws are Lobslicer cutters, though he rarely uses them as intended for cutting; instead, he prefers to rattle them like maracas to accompany his dancing. His tech specifications list his endurance as remarkably high, though his intelligence and speed are only average. The official data files also note specific physical capabilities, including a running speed of 100 kilometers per hour and a maximum power output of 780,000 horsepower.
