Description
Pimer, also written as PiMa and alternatively localized as Paimer, is a robotic character in the anime Gatchaman II. The name is short for Pilot Machine. Pimer serves as the Science Ninja Team's personal pilot robot for the New God Phoenix, the team's new main aircraft in the series.
Pimer was introduced alongside the New God Phoenix, the larger successor to the original God Phoenix. As the craft's resident robot pilot, Pimer was responsible for operating the ship and guiding it during the team's missions. The New God Phoenix is depicted as space-worthy, and Pimer's piloting duties include managing the craft's flight and related systems.
Pimer behaves in a dutiful and cooperative manner consistent with an automated pilot, assisting the crew as needed during missions. The character's depiction is primarily functional, with personality traits kept simple and supportive rather than extensively developed. As a machine created for a specific purpose, Pimer's function is to serve the Science Ninja Team by piloting the New God Phoenix and supporting their operations.
Throughout Gatchaman II, Pimer appears as the pilot of the New God Phoenix, ferrying the five team members into missions and helping operate the aircraft during combat and travel. Pimer works directly with the members of the Science Ninja Team, who rely on the robot to fly their aircraft. The working relationship is practical and team-oriented rather than personal in nature.
Pimer does not receive a major character arc over the course of the series. Following the destruction of the New God Phoenix early in the subsequent series, Gatchaman Fighter, Pimer's fate is not addressed. Pimer's defining ability is autonomous control of the New God Phoenix, including piloting the large aircraft in atmospheric and space environments and operating its internal systems in cooperation with the crew.
