Description
Nottorudamu, also known as Notre-Dame in some dubs, is a supporting character in the 1980 anime series Zukkoke Knight - Don De La Mancha. He serves as the loyal but cunning servant and companion of Dulcinea, the young woman whom the protagonist Don Quixote idealizes as a princess. In the Spanish-language version of the series, he is sometimes referred to as Gordillo.

Background and Role in the Story: Nottorudamu is the constant attendant of Dulcinea, who is the daughter of a thief. Dulcinea is curious about the world beyond her castle and often sneaks out with Nottorudamu by her side. Her father, who pretends to be ill or in financial distress through video messages, manipulates her into sending him money. To fulfill these demands and to fund their adventures, Nottorudamu devises various schemes and robberies. These plans almost always involve tricking Don Quixote, who is hopelessly in love with Dulcinea and easily deceived due to his romantic idealism. Nottorudamu's schemes invariably fail, leading to comedic results.

Personality and Motivations: Nottorudamu is resourceful, quick-witted, and pragmatic, contrasting with Don Quixote's fanciful nature. He is the brains behind the duo's money-making plots, demonstrating a talent for manipulation and improvisation. Despite his dishonest methods, his primary motivation is loyalty to Dulcinea; he carries out her wishes and tries to protect her from the consequences of her father's greed and their own misadventures. His personality is dry and opportunistic, often serving as the straight man in the comedy.

Key Relationships: His most important relationship is with Dulcinea, whom he serves faithfully and with whom he shares a close, conspiratorial bond. He also has a significant dynamic with Don Quixote, whom he regularly exploits for financial gain. Nottorudamu treats the knight with a mixture of exasperation and calculated manipulation, aware that Don Quixote's delusions can be used to their advantage. His relationship with the other main character, Sancho Panza, is less directly antagonistic, though Sancho often sees through the schemes and tries to protect his master.

Development and Notable Abilities: Nottorudamu does not undergo significant character growth over the course of the series; he remains a consistently scheming and loyal servant. His primary abilities are his cunning and his knack for creating elaborate, if ultimately unsuccessful, plots. He is also shown to be physically capable of assisting in adventures, though he is not a fighter like Don Quixote. His role is to drive the episodic comedy by providing the obstacle and the failed plan that the knight's delusions inevitably overcome.
