Description
Mazo is a secondary antagonist in the 1967 anime adaptation of Ogon Bat, serving as the loyal lieutenant and right-hand man to the primary villain, Lord Nazo. He is first introduced in the episode Ge-Georg, where he assists in the construction of a giant robot intended to thwart the hero. Throughout the series, Mazo commands the other subordinates within Nazo’s organization and oversees many of the villain’s operations. He is a dutiful and reliable henchman, though his position puts him at risk of punishment for failure; on one occasion he survives being executed by Nazo after a mission goes wrong, indicating a mix of loyalty and self-preservation. Mazo’s motivations are not deeply explored, but he consistently acts to further Nazo’s goal of world conquest. He plays a supporting adversarial role, frequently confronting the protagonists and coordinating attacks against them, but he never matches the power of the main hero, Ogon Bat. His development is minimal, remaining a steadfast underling throughout the series. In terms of abilities, Mazo is not depicted with supernatural powers; his strength lies in organizational leadership, tactical command of Nazo’s forces, and involvement in the development of advanced machinery such as giant robots and other weapons.
