Description
Pagura, also known as Pagoola, is a character in the anime Leo the Lion, part of the Jungle Emperor Leo franchise. He is an African bush elephant and a large bull elephant, and many depictions of him show darker skin than the other elephants in his herd. His defining personality trait is stubbornness, paired with a deep and lasting distrust of humans and human culture. While other animals in the jungle are open to the ideas and customs brought by people, Pagura remains skeptical and resistant, valuing the traditional ways of the animal world. His motivations are rooted in protecting his kind and his way of life from outside influence, and his wariness reflects the perspective of the older, more traditional generation of jungle animals. Despite this attitude, he does not reject the young lion protagonist. He praises the cub for his beliefs, which shows that he recognizes sincerity, courage, and conviction even when those beliefs come from a figure shaped by human ways. In the story, he serves as a traditionalist presence among the animals, offering a contrast to the protagonist's more open and progressive outlook while also demonstrating that respect can be earned through genuine principle. His relationship with the protagonist is built on this mutual acknowledgment, and his development is expressed mainly through a shift from suspicion toward recognition of the young leader's convictions. His notable abilities lie in his great size and physical power as a bull elephant, which make him a formidable figure, as well as his standing and influence within his elephant herd.
