Description
Asnus, also known as Aznus, is a character from the anime Pygmalio. He is introduced as a mysterious and somewhat sinister young man whose appearance immediately sets him apart. He wears a long black cloak along with a helmet and shoulder pieces crafted from animal bones, creating a dark and intimidating silhouette that contrasts with his otherwise handsome, dark-featured human face.

As the son of Elzo, the god of evil, and the brother of Medusa, Asnus belongs to the demon realm. Despite possessing immense power inherent to his lineage, he chooses not to serve his father and instead wanders according to his own will. His initial motivations are deeply self-serving and ambitious. He secretly seeks to collect the pieces of the Mirror of Elzo, a powerful artifact, with the goal of betraying both his sister Medusa and his father to acquire full power and become a ruler in his own right, even rejecting the position of Elzo's heir.

Asnus’s role in the story is significantly shaped by two key obsessions. The first is a fascination with Guaratia, the mother of the character Caral. While on a journey, Asnus happened upon a statue of Guaratia and became overwhelmingly captivated by her beauty, an image that he cannot erase from his mind and repeatedly seeks to recreate. The second, more transformative relationship is with a human woman named Eeuss. His encounter with her begins to change his perspective and open his eyes to things beyond his initial obsessions.

A major turning point in Asnus’s development comes as a direct punishment from his father, Elzo. For his treachery, Elzo strips Asnus of his supernatural powers and condemns him to live the simple, powerless life of a mortal. This harsh experience triggers a significant change in his character. Forced into a life of servitude as a slave, he works with his own hands and even finds himself saving the lives of other humans, actions far removed from his former evil ambitions. While he later desires to regain his powers, his motivation shifts from personal gain to using them for the selfless purpose of healing Eeuss. His powers are eventually restored to him by his sister, Medusa, following a request from Marius.
