Description
Gunkid is a sentient robot from the television series The Brave Command Dagwon. Originally designated as Gundroid T-96, he was created by an alien known as the Mekaju Seijin. This alien intended to use Gunkid as a tool to root himself on Earth and drain the planet of its nutrients, with Gunkid serving as his primary weapon for this invasion. When the Dagwon team confronted the Mekaju Seijin, they managed to take control of Gunkid and used his powerful cannon mode against the alien, completely destroying him.
After the Mekaju Seijin's defeat, the Dagwons considered destroying the weapon they had captured. However, one of their allies, a sword-wielding warrior named Lian, intervened. Lian recognized that Gunkid was merely following orders and had no inherent malice, arguing that the young robot could be trained for good. Taking responsibility for him, Lian gave him the name Gunkid and became his mentor and guardian.
In terms of personality, Gunkid is defined by his extreme youth and immaturity, possessing the mind and temperament of a very young child, roughly five years old. This childish nature is a central aspect of his character and often leads to unintended problems for the Dagwon team. For instance, his crying is remarkably powerful, generating soundwaves capable of jamming radio communications. His immaturity is most prominently displayed in a key episode where he accidentally fires his shoulder-mounted Kid Vulcan cannons and hits Lian. Overcome with guilt and fear of being scolded, Gunkid runs away from the team. This incident, and his subsequent reconciliation and decision to help rescue a captured Lian, marks a significant moment of growth for him. Following this, the Dagwons officially welcomed him as a full member by presenting him with a large Dagwon crest to attach to his hat.
As a robot, Gunkid possesses several alternate forms. His default is a humanoid robot mode with a design inspired by a cowboy, complete with a large hat, spurs on his heels, and a bandana-like battle mask. He can transform into two different vehicle modes: a fighter aircraft called Kid Fighter and a tank called Kid Tank. In all of these forms, his primary feature is the massive gun barrel that defines his true purpose. His most significant transformation is into a stationary artillery piece known as the Mugenhou, or Infinity Cannon. In this mode, Gunkid becomes the Dagwon team's most powerful weapon. He does not typically fire himself; instead, he combines with other Dagwon robots to serve as their cannon. For example, he can dock with Fire Dagwon, connecting to the right side of his waist, and is used by Power Dagwon, who has a dedicated connector on his left shoulder to harness the cannon’s power. The Infinity Cannon is a solar-charged superweapon with immense destructive capabilities, but its tremendous recoil can push the user back great distances and requires stabilization.
Gunkid's primary role in the story is as a powerful piece of artillery for the Dagwon team and a younger ward in need of guidance. His key relationship is with Lian, who acts as his patient caretaker and teacher. After Sargasso, the space prison that served as the alien base, disappears and peace returns to Earth, Gunkid’s journey continues. He ultimately chooses to follow Lian, joining him on a new journey to search for survivors of Lian's race, the Sword Seijin.
