Description
Geki Kuroiwa is a character who joins the main cast of the anime The Brave Command Dagwon. He is a third-year student at Fuun High School, distinguished by his unique and somewhat old-fashioned appearance, typically wearing a tattered school cap, a traditional gakuran uniform, and wooden clogs called geta. He is notably tall and well-built, standing at 183 centimeters.
In his school, Geki holds the position of bancho, a powerful and respected leader of a student gang, and claims to have one hundred subordinates under his command. Despite being a student at Fuun High School, he is frequently seen at the same locations as the other main characters from a different school, suggesting he does not strictly adhere to his own school's boundaries. Geki first appears as a rival to En Daidouji, having had his arm broken in a prior confrontation with him.
Geki possesses a personality that is a mix of hot-blooded impulsiveness and a hidden, softer side. He is generally easygoing and cool-headed in many situations but has a notoriously hot temper and a somewhat simple-minded, comedic nature. He prides himself on his physical strength and is a man of conviction who will act when necessary but also knows when to back down. This strong sense of justice is what ultimately leads him to seek out the power to become a hero. Despite his tough exterior, he is notably awkward and not very honest when it comes to women, a trait that is played for both character depth and humor.
He holds a one-sided romantic affection for Maria Tobe, and his admiration for her serves as his primary motivation for joining the team. After accidentally discovering the Dag Base while tracking En, he was initially detained but later demanded that the Brave Saint allow him to become a Dag-on specifically to help rescue Maria. His infatuation is an open and obvious trait; he has her name written on his clothing and in his room, and he often acts jealously toward her interactions with other male characters, particularly Rai Utsumi.
Geki's role in the story is that of a powerful ground-combat specialist who joins the core team later in the series. As a member, he often forms a trio with En and Shin Sawamura, creating a dynamic of camaraderie and comedic relief. He shares a particularly strong, brother-like bond with En, transitioning from an initial rival to a close friend and hot-blooded partner in battle. He also frequently acts as a straight man to the eccentricities of fellow member Yoku Kazamatsuri. During combat, he is fearless and headstrong, though he has a tendency to get injured, having his arm broken on multiple occasions throughout the story.
Over the course of the series, Geki undergoes subtle but significant character development. He begins with a personal motivation focused solely on Maria but grows to understand the larger responsibility of being a hero. His most notable development occurs near the climax, where, after realizing that Maria's true happiness lies with En, he selflessly withdraws his romantic pursuit and performs a dangerous, near-suicidal maneuver to ensure their success. In the OVA, which takes place after the main series, Geki has graduated from high school and works as an adult employee at a bar called Mikawaya. He has matured, seemingly moved on from his infatuation with Maria, and now lives a more ordinary life while still retaining his ability to transform and fight when necessary.
As a warrior, Geki transforms into his Dagtector form known as Drill Geki. True to his name, his motif is the drill, and his main color is black. In this form, he can transform into a drill mode for underground travel. His signature abilities include the Drill Crash, where he spins his entire body at high speed to charge into an enemy, the Rock Crusher, a beam fired from his chest armor, and the Drill Punch, which utilizes a high-speed rotating drill attached to his wrist. For larger-scale combat, Geki merges his Drill Geki form with a steam locomotive-style machine called the Drill Liner in a process known as Fusion Combination. This creates a larger warrior robot named DagDrill. DagDrill is also capable of combining with the other members' machines DagTurbo, DagArmor, and DagWing to form the even more powerful Super Liner Dagwon.
