Description
Noboru Yamada is the eldest son of the Yamada household in the anime Ojamanga Yamada-kun. He is depicted as a young man who spends his days as a ronin, meaning he is a repeat student preparing for university entrance examinations, with his sights set on the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Law. The number of years he has spent studying for these exams has become so numerous that even he has lost count, though at one point in the series it is mentioned that he is in his third year of being a ronin. This long period of preparation has shaped much of his daily life and personality.

In terms of personality, Noboru is highly intelligent and has a deep passion for science and robotics. His father works for a robotics company, which has allowed Noboru to pursue his hobby with considerable enthusiasm. He is fascinated by the possibilities of robotics and spends most of his free time building and programming robots. However, despite his intellectual strengths, he is socially awkward and has difficulty forming friendships. He often feels isolated from his peers and struggles to connect with them on a personal level. He is also prone to a particular bad habit: when he hears people talking outside the Yamada home, he inevitably leans out of the second-floor window to shout at them to be quiet because he is studying. Despite his constant claims of studying, his academic progress does not seem to reflect his efforts, as shown when his younger brother Minoru tricks him into solving a set of middle school summer homework assignments by pretending they are University of Tokyo entrance exam questions, and Noboru gets every answer wrong.

Noboru's motivations are centered around his dream of using robotics to make a positive difference in the world. He sees robotics as a means to solve global problems, from protecting the environment to improving healthcare. This passion and determination are what define him and inspire those around him. His primary motivation is also to pass his university entrance exams, though his actual study habits are questionable.

His role in the story is as a member of the Yamada family, often providing comedic tension through his conflicts with his parents and his perpetual state of exam preparation. The series does not have a single protagonist, and episodes often focus on different characters, but Noboru is a recurring figure whose struggles with study and family life are a consistent source of humor.

Key relationships include his parents, with whom he frequently argues. He is the older brother of Minoru and Yoneko. A significant relationship in his life is with a boy named Yamada, a new student in his class who shares his passion for robots. Yamada becomes Noboru's first real friend and helps him come out of his shell. Through this friendship, Noboru learns to open up, connect with others, and understand the importance of teamwork.

In terms of character development, Noboru shows growth in his ability to connect with others, particularly through his friendship with Yamada. He learns to open up and discover the power of working together toward a common goal. However, his fundamental struggle with his studies and his somewhat lazy approach to his exam preparation remain a recurring joke throughout the series. As for notable abilities, his primary strength lies in his intelligence and his skill in building and programming robots. He has a sharp mind for scientific and technical matters, even if his academic performance in other areas is lacking. He also has a tendency to let his imagination run wild, blowing small concerns out of proportion and panicking by himself.
