Description
Dr. Tachibana is a prominent scientist and the head of the Getter Robo project. A middle-aged man of average height and build, he is easily recognized by his graying hair, mustache, glasses, and the lab coat he is almost always seen wearing. He holds a high position in both rocket science and robotics, and his expertise was recognized through an invitation to participate in the initial Vega Zone project. Within the narrative, he is the co-creator and developer of the Getter Robo Go, originally designing the prototype as a machine for space development and peaceful innovation rather than as a weapon of war.

Dr. Tachibana is defined by his pacifistic beliefs. He is a man who deeply wants the Getter to be a tool for peace and progress, and he is stubbornly reluctant to see his creation used for combat. This core principle is tested severely when the world is threatened by the Metal Beasts of the villainous Professor Lando. Even as the Getter becomes the only machine capable of fighting these creatures, Dr. Tachibana clings to his ideals. However, the crisis becomes deeply personal with the death of his son, Shinichi Tachibana, who is killed by the Metal Beasts. This tragic loss becomes a pivotal turning point, forcing Dr. Tachibana to reconcile his pacifism with reality to ensure his son's sacrifice was not in vain.

Despite his reluctance, Dr. Tachibana proves willing to adapt. After Shinichi's death, he agrees to strengthen the Getter for combat, working with the Defense Force to improve the design and outfit it with powerful weaponry to fight Professor Lando's forces. While his daughter, Sho Tachibana, becomes one of the primary pilots of the completed Getter Robo Go, Dr. Tachibana usually remains on the sidelines in a support capacity, handling critical repairs and maintenance on the robot when it is damaged in battle. His role is that of the dedicated father and engineer, determined to stop the fighting and put his faith in the Getter and the young pilots who operate it.
