Description
Genryūsai Shinobibe is a supporting character from the original Mashin Hero Wataru anime series, where he is primarily known as the father of the young kunoichi Himiko Shinobibe. Despite his role as a parent, Genryūsai does not appear as a typical human figure throughout much of the story. Instead, he is depicted as a small, monkey-like creature who serves as the main pilot of the Mashin known as Genjinmaru. His unusual appearance is the result of a forced transformation; he was originally a human ninja but was changed into his primate form for reasons that are eventually resolved following the defeat of the series main antagonist. This transformation adds a layer of mystery to his character and serves as a subplot concerning his fate.

In terms of personality, Genryūsai is characterized by his expertise in ninjutsu and his calm, seasoned demeanor. As a senior member of the Shinobibe clan, he demonstrates a mastery of his craft, with a particular specialty in paper-based ninja techniques. His speech is marked by a distinctive verbal tic, as he tends to end his sentences with the sound ura. This unique manner of speaking, combined with his small stature and high level of skill, makes him a memorable figure within the group of allies assisting the hero Wataru. While Himiko is energetic and unpredictable, Genryūsai represents the more experienced and disciplined side of their ninja family.

Genryūsais role in the story is tied directly to his function as the operator of the Genjinmaru. This Mashin is notably the same one that his daughter Himiko occasionally co-pilots, highlighting the familys connection to these mechanical warriors. He accompanies the main team, which includes Wataru, Himiko, and the swordsman Shibaraku, during their journey through the first series and the subsequent OVA, Shin Mashin Hero Wataru. His presence provides a direct link to the mystical ninja arts that aid the team in their various battles and challenges. However, his active involvement is limited to these initial installments; in Mashin Hero Wataru 2, he largely does not travel with the group, appearing only in a brief flashback sequence.

Regarding his development and key relationships, Genryūsais transformation is a significant aspect of his character arc. After the main villain Doakudar is defeated, his curse is lifted, and he is seen returning to his original human form. However, in later OVA stories, his circumstances change again, as he is subsequently transformed into a dog before eventually being restored once more. His most important relationship is with his daughter, Himiko. Despite his non-human appearance for much of the series, he acts as a guardian and a master of ninjutsu, complementing her raw talent and youthful energy. His relationship with the rest of the main cast, including the elderly ninja Ojiji Shinobibe, reinforces the deep history and generational legacy of the Shinobibe clan within the world of Soukaizan. As a master of paper ninjutsu and the true pilot of Genjinmaru, his notable abilities lie in his strategic use of ninja tools and his combat experience, which provide crucial support to the younger heroes on their quest.
