Description
Megumi Asano is a supporting character in Kamen Rider Ryuki, introduced as a trainee journalist at the ORE Journal. She originally worked as the personal secretary to Shuichi Kitaoka, a lawyer and one of the Kamen Riders. After leaving that position, she re-entered Kitaoka’s life by falsely claiming that she was dying, a scheme that nearly led him to marry her. Her deception was ultimately uncovered, but she later found employment at ORE Journal, where she aspires to become a full-fledged journalist. In terms of personality, Megumi Asano appears scatterbrained and somewhat clumsy, often causing trouble for those around her. Despite this outward flakiness, she possesses a good heart and a sharp intelligence that she does not always display. She is determined and wants to prove herself in the field of journalism, though her methods can be unorthodox. Her role in the story is largely as a member of the supporting cast at ORE Journal, where she interacts with the main protagonist Shinji Kido, as well as fellow staff members Nanako Shimada and Reiko Momoi. She has a notable history with Shuichi Kitaoka, and her presence serves to provide moments of levity and to highlight the human side of the narrative outside the Rider War. She also develops a friendly, if occasionally adversarial, relationship with Nanako Shimada, and the two eventually become friends. Megumi Asano does not possess any supernatural abilities or participate directly in combat; her significance comes from her personal connections and her growth as a journalist-in-training. Over the course of the series, she becomes more earnest in her work and more aware of the strange events surrounding the Mirror World, though she never becomes a Kamen Rider herself. Her experiences include witnessing Shinji Kido walk through a glass window, an event that underscores her exposure to the series’ fantastical elements. Overall, she is a well-meaning and determined young woman whose journey is one of personal and professional development within the context of the series’ ensemble cast.
