Description
Chan Chanko, designated Cyborg 006, is originally from China and a member of the team of cyborg protagonists. His background varies across different adaptations, though it consistently begins with profound hardship. In some versions, he is an impoverished pig farmer whose livestock escaped and whose crops failed, leaving him unable to pay heavy taxes and on the verge of starvation. Driven to despair, he attempted to end his life by hanging, but agents of the criminal organization Black Ghost intervened, cutting the rope and taking him captive. In other tellings, particularly the 2001 anime series, he was the owner and head cook of a restaurant. Attempting to entertain his customers with a fire-breathing trick, he accidentally caused a fire that destroyed his establishment, leading to the loss of everything he owned. He fainted from the shock and was subsequently seized by Black Ghost.
Following his capture, Chan Chanko was transformed into a cyborg and designated 006. His primary ability is to breathe intense torrents of flame, which can reach temperatures of up to 3,000 degrees Celsius, sufficient to melt most man-made materials and even solid rock. He can use this power offensively against enemies, but also for tactical purposes, such as creating tunnels through the earth or triggering underground explosions. In some later storylines, such as the OVA Conclusion: GOD'S WAR, his abilities are further enhanced to a form of pyrokinesis, allowing him to shape his flames into constructs, such as a dragon, for more powerful attacks.
Physically, Chan Chanko has a short, rotund build with a large belly, a chubby face, a large nose, and a thin, curly mustache. His eyes are often drawn in a distinctive cartoonish "3" shape. He typically wears the red, double-breasted military-style uniform common to the 00 cyborgs, complete with a yellow scarf and a holster for a standard-issue sidearm.
