Description
Kamoda works as a cameraman for a sports newspaper, where he is partnered with the reporter Matsuda. In this role, he is responsible for capturing photographic evidence to accompany Matsuda's articles, and is known for having a certain knack for taking the perfect shot that can be used for a headline.

Introduced early in the story, Kamoda is present when Matsuda first witnesses the judo prodigy Yawara Inokuma unknowingly use her skills to subdue a thief in a public place. On that occasion, he was only able to capture a photograph of a faceless girl, which became the starting point for Matsuda's investigation into her identity. He accompanies Matsuda on several early reporting ventures, including a visit to the Inokuma residence to question Yawara's grandfather, Jigoro, about the incident.

Throughout the narrative, Kamoda functions as a support and foil to his more ambitious and driven partner. He is portrayed as a professional who reliably does his job, though at times his role can be a difficult one, leading him to be described as Matsuda's much put-upon photographer. His relationship with Matsuda is primarily professional, defined by their shared assignments and the pressures of chasing a story.

As the series progresses, Kamoda's role in the narrative changes. Following the arrival of a new reporter named Kuniko Kaga, who is assigned to work with Matsuda, Kamoda is transferred to the performing arts department of the newspaper. After this point, his appearances become less frequent, though he continues to be depicted as someone who retains his skill for taking excellent photographs.
