Description
Chihiro Rokuhira is the eighteen-year-old protagonist of the series, born on August 11. He is the son of Kunishige Rokuhira, the legendary swordsmith who forged the six Enchanted Blades that helped end the Seitei War. Chihiro has black hair and distinctive crimson eyes, and bears a prominent scar on his face, a permanent reminder of the traumatic attack on his home years ago.
In terms of personality, Chihiro is primarily stoic, determined, and driven by a deep-seated sense of purpose. He is defined by a cold and unwavering resolve, yet this exists alongside a softer, more compassionate side. While he presents a distant and taciturn exterior, he is deeply caring, particularly towards the young girl Char, and is noted by his ally Shiba to be very good at looking after others due to his experience caring for his somewhat whimsical father. Chihiro possesses a strong moral compass, often reflecting on the grave implications of wielding and crafting weapons meant for killing. He lives by his father's teachings that such blades should only be wielded by the deserving to protect the weak and defeat evil. Every morning, he starts the day with a renewed sense of hatred, fueling his quest.
Chihiro's primary motivation is to retrieve the six Enchanted Blades stolen by the Hishaku, a powerful group of sorcerers who murdered his father. While this quest is fueled by a desire for revenge, it is also deeply rooted in honoring his father's ideals and ensuring the blades do not fall into unworthy hands. He acts as the central figure of the narrative, driving the plot forward through his relentless pursuit of the Hishaku and the stolen swords.
His key relationships are central to his character. His bond with his late father, Kunishige, is the most significant, as his father's teachings and memory guide every action. Togo Shiba, an old friend of Kunishige and a skilled sorcerer, acts as Chihiro's primary ally and guardian, supporting him in his mission. Char, a young girl with regenerative abilities whom Chihiro rescues, becomes a close companion and someone he is fiercely protective of. He also forms a crucial alliance with Hakuri Sazanami, a young man who aids him in dismantling a major illegal auction. His adversaries include the Hishaku as a whole and, notably, Genichi Sojo, a sorcerer who wielded the stolen Enchanted Blade Cloud Gouger and represented a twisted ideology that Chihiro vehemently opposed.
Throughout the story, Chihiro undergoes significant development. He begins as a grief-stricken son solely focused on avenging his father. Through his experiences, particularly his battles and his relationship with Char, he learns to fight not just for revenge but to protect others and uphold his father's principles. He evolves from a solitary avenger into someone who accepts allies and carries the weight of his father's legacy as a swordsmith who must ensure his creations are used for good.
Chihiro is a highly skilled swordsman and the wielder of Enten, the seventh and final Enchanted Blade forged by his father. Enten was created not just as a weapon but as a potential counter to the other blades, a path to a peaceful future. Through his contract with Enten, Chihiro can utilize powerful techniques that manifest as spirit energy in the form of goldfish. His abilities include Kuro (Black), which releases a hyper-concentrated pressurized slash that greatly extends his range; Aka (Red), a defensive technique that absorbs an incoming attack and allows Chihiro to seize ownership of it and redirect it; and Nishiki (Gold Brocade), which creates a cloak of high-density spirit energy around him, greatly enhancing his speed, agility, and the power of all his attacks. In addition to these sorcerous abilities, Chihiro has honed his body using spirit energy to achieve superhuman physical capabilities and has mastered the Iai White Purity style of swordsmanship, a notoriously difficult technique he learned after receiving a single demonstration from a master swordsman, proving himself to be a prodigy.
