Description
Dongha Yeon is the younger paternal half-brother of Yeon Hajun and the legitimate successor to the Yeon family business conglomerate. From early childhood, he received an intensive education in the art of governance, drilled as though he were a future monarch. This upbringing shaped a personality that is arrogant and insolent; he believes in his own absolute superiority and attempts to prove it by defeating Hajun in hip-hop battles. He is the rapper who performs under the MC name lil EMPERA and is one half of the duo AMPRULE, alongside his family's butler Baek Chungsung.
Physically, Dongha is a short, slender boy with a blonde bowl cut and light grey-green eyes. A mole sits on his cheek beneath his left eye. His typical attire consists of a black turtleneck with black straps over his right shoulder and waist, paired with a puffy dark green jacket decorated with many gold pins and gemstones, including insect and heart shapes. He is a middle school student and is sensitive about his height, worrying that he will not grow any taller.
His motivations are deeply tied to his family status and his rivalry with Hajun. He wishes to demonstrate that his upbringing and inherent right to lead make him superior, and he views hip-hop as the arena in which to settle that claim. This drive is fueled by a set of traumas: a fear that being anything less than a winner makes him worthless, an inferiority complex, and the heavy pressure of his family's pedigree. He hates to lose and will fight by any means necessary.
Within the story of Paradox Live The Animation, Dongha participates in the Phantom Live battles as a member of AMPRULE, a team known for its high-class atmosphere but negative, cutting lyrics. He uses a Phantometal accessory called the Majestic Cane—a walking stick with a swallow motif that is activated by kissing it—to produce illusions related to his emotions. His relationship with his half-brother Hajun is the central axis of his character: Hajun is his primary target, and defeating him in a rap battle represents the ultimate validation of Dongha's own worth. His partnership with Baek Chungsung is another key relationship; Chungsung serves him as a devoted butler who produces tracks on command, and Dongha relies on his loyalty.
Dongha's development over the course of the series revolves around whether his arrogance masks genuine insecurity and whether his drive to conquer can evolve into something more nuanced. His notable abilities include his skill as a rapper, his training in piano (listed as a hobby), and his use of the Majestic Cane to manifest his defiant spirit on stage. Despite his outward confidence, he struggles with a lack of sense of direction, which serves as a small but telling weakness.
