Description
Nico Kashiwagi, also known by her stage name Nico, is one of the main characters of Beat & Motion. She is a 21-year-old independent singer-songwriter who works as an indie musician. Nico is described as someone who moves straight toward her dreams without hesitation, embodying a passionate and driven personality. Her background includes a childhood friendship with Miu, a girl who shared her love for music. The two eventually had a falling out and drifted apart after Nico gave up on music for a period.

Nico's motivations are rooted in her strong belief in following one's dreams, a conviction she holds so firmly that she openly confronts those who dismiss the value of ambition. This is demonstrated in a chance encounter with Tatsuhiko Hirayama, where she angrily berates him for his cynical outlook on dreams while intoxicated, though she does not remember the event later. After seeing a short animation Tatsuhiko uploaded online, she is impressed and contacts him to ask if he will create an animated music video for her latest song. This request forms the central collaboration of the story.

In the narrative, Nico serves as a catalyst for Tatsuhiko's renewed pursuit of animation. Their professional partnership gradually deepens as they encourage each other throughout the creative process. Nico's role in the story also involves her navigation of the music industry. She is contacted by a major record label to sign on, which temporarily puts her project with Tatsuhiko on hold because the label would hold the rights to her song. When the label delays her debut due to an influx of artists from another label, Nico asks to write and compose songs in the meantime. She submits a song to a competition that could lead to a collaboration with popular pop artist Miyu. Her song is chosen, and she discovers that Miyu is her childhood best friend Miu, leading to a confrontation where Miyu demands to know why Nico originally gave up on music.

Key relationships include her bond with Tatsuhiko, which evolves from a fan-artist dynamic into a close working partnership and mutual support system, and her reconnection with Miu, which forces Nico to face her past and her reasons for abandoning music. Notable abilities include her talent as a singer and songwriter, her capacity to compose music, and her unwavering, confrontational belief in pursuing dreams. Her development involves grappling with the realities of the music business, reigniting a broken friendship, and reconciling her past decisions with her present ambitions.
