Description
Garma Zabi, youngest son of Degwin Sodo Zabi, sovereign of the Principality of Zeon, was born in U.C. 0059. After his mother Naliss's early death, he received his father's doting. As the youngest child among politically powerful siblings, he grew up under intense pressure to match their accomplishments. His honest nature and handsome looks fostered popularity with Zeon's citizens, a quality later harnessed for propaganda.

Childhood trauma struck when Garma witnessed the bombing at Zeon Zum Deikun's funeral that killed his brother Sasro; though reduced to tears, his sister Kycilia admonished him. Seeking recognition, he enrolled in Side 3's military academy. There, he developed a complex dynamic with classmate Char Aznable, initially trying to bully him but forming a respectful rivalry after Char saved him during training. Consistently ranking second to Char academically and physically, Garma arranged to become Char's roommate, displaying both admiration and entitlement.

During his third year, encouraged by Char, Garma led fellow cadets against Federation forces in the Dawn Rebellion amidst civilian riots. His successful command won public acclaim but resulted in Char's expulsion as a political concession to the Federation, solidifying Garma's reputation and deepening his trust in Char.

Appointed commander of Zeon's Earth Attack Force by Kycilia during the One Year War—though his authority may have been confined to North America—Garma established headquarters in California, eager to prove his worth beyond family connections. He pursued the Federation warship White Base into his territory, personally leading sorties in a customized Dopp fighter. Despite tactics like luring the RX-78-02 Gundam into his Gaw carrier's beam cannon range, communication failures and battlefield setbacks repeatedly foiled his operations.

Garma maintained a romantic relationship with Icelina Eschonbach, daughter of a former Earth mayor. He confided in her his willingness to abandon Zeon for marriage, revealing his conflict between duty and personal desire, a relationship also serving his political role in securing local alliances.

His trust in Char proved fatal during the Battle of Los Angeles. Char deliberately provided false intelligence on White Base's location, luring Garma into an ambush. Realizing Char's betrayal mid-battle, Garma attempted a desperate kamikaze attack on White Base, declaring "Glory to the Principality of Zeon," but his ship was destroyed before impact. His death devastated Degwin and was exploited by his brother Gihren for propaganda to galvanize Zeon.

In the "Gihren's Greed" alternate continuity, Garma survives and later forms "Reborn Zeon" with his brother Dozle to oppose Gihren's extremism.
