Description
Ittoki Sakuraba lives as an ordinary high school student, unaware of his heritage until an assassination attempt shatters his ordinary life, revealing he is the 19th legitimate heir to the Iga ninja clan. This position came through his mother, Yumika Sakuraba, who led the clan after his father's death. Initially naive and resistant to his ninja lineage, his life upends when rival Koga ninjas target him, forcing him to enroll at Ninjutsu Gakuen academy for protection and training. This abrupt transition thrusts him into the centuries-old conflict between the Iga and Koga clans, fundamentally altering his path.

His development centers on grappling with leadership responsibilities and ninja ethics. Reluctant to embrace his role as clan chief, he evolves through exposure to betrayal, loss, and warfare. Key events include surviving multiple assassination attempts, navigating complex relationships at the academy, and confronting Koga aggression. A pivotal moment occurs when his mother Yumika is murdered, compelling him to formally assume leadership as the 20th head of the Iga clan. Throughout, he adheres strictly to the ninja tenet prohibiting killing, emphasizing non-lethal resolutions in combat. This principle becomes central to his leadership philosophy and informs his strategic decisions during the clan war.

Interpersonal relationships significantly shape his journey. His childhood friend and bodyguard Kōsetsu, later revealed as a Manchurian agent implanted with a control device by Koga leader Kidō Minobe, remains a loyal protector despite being manipulated into assassinating Yumika. Their bond withstands this trauma, with Ittoki consistently prioritizing her safety. He forms alliances with classmates like Ryoko Suzunone, whose technological expertise aids the Iga, and Kirei Kisegawa, a Koga spy who defects to his side. His rivalry with Suzaku Ban evolves from hostility to alliance after Suzaku realizes Kidō framed the Iga for his father's murder. These relationships underscore Ittoki's belief in reconciliation over vengeance, ultimately facilitating peace between the clans.

Following the conflict's resolution, Ittoki rejects traditional ninja life. He steps down as clan chief, allowing Suzaku to lead a reformed Koga while maintaining peaceful relations. The epilogue depicts him living as an ordinary salaryman, though he retains his ninja skills. Kōsetsu accompanies him initially, but both pursue independent paths while continuing to visit family graves together, symbolizing closure from their traumatic past.
