Description
Notrei, alternatively called Nottorei, function as the primary foot soldiers for the Notraiders organization, typically operating under General Tenjo's command. Their distinct appearance features light grey bodies accented by dark grey sleeves and belts, complemented by white gloves and boots with dark grey tops. A defining purple facial marking vertically spells "NO," where the "O" serves as their mouth. Each possesses a dark grey head antenna and displays noticeable size variations.

First engaging in combat during episode 1 alongside Kappard during a mission to capture Fuwa, they proved vulnerable and were swiftly defeated by Cure Star. Standard capabilities include flight via rocket shoes, offensive use of laser guns, and tactical deployment of smoke bombs for disorientation.

A critical evolution emerged when Tenjo, empowered by Darknest, gained the ability to transform victims into giant Notrei. This process darkens the victim's heart using her fan, resulting in an enlarged form marked by a black chest heart. While typically humanoid, these giants blend standard Notrei traits (like the facial "NO") with characteristics of the original individual, though transforming Don Octo yielded an octopus-like giant. Each giant form wields unique abilities tied to its origin, such as firing ink, wielding giant lollipops or fishing rods, or generating energy beams.

The first giant Notrei originated from Touma (Elena Amamiya's brother) in episode 14. Subsequent transformations included Terumi Hoshina (episode 18), Harukichi Hoshina (episode 22), Irma (episode 24), Kuku (episode 29), Saboro (episode 34), Don Octo (episode 36), a school principal (episode 39), Kaede Amamiya (episode 42), and notably Tenjo herself in episode 43. Tenjo self-transformed, gaining abilities like fan-based wind attacks and trap creation. A unique incident occurred in episode 49 when Hoshina Youichi accidentally triggered transformation by wearing a Nottorei Mask backwards, becoming a giant Notrei capable of chest beam attacks. Defeating these giant forms consistently required specific Pretty Cure finishing moves.

Episode 46 revealed that standard Notrei are not summoned entities but aliens recruited from various planets who don Notrei suits for battle. Their name derives from the Japanese verb "nottoru" (乗っ取る), meaning "to take over." Following Aiwarn's departure from the Notraiders, the Notrei became the season's primary recurring monster force. They represent the first franchise monster type creatable with or without a specific victim.

Within the film "Star Twinkle Pretty Cure the Movie: These Feelings Within The Song of Stars," Notrei appear during an opening space battle sequence, supporting Tenjo against the Pretty Cure before retreating. Their role and portrayal in the film align precisely with their series depiction as foot soldiers.
