Description
Kappard serves as a main commander for the antagonistic Notraiders, dedicated to universal control by seizing Fuwa and the Princess Star Color Pens. His design reflects Japanese kappa folklore, featuring water-green skin, an olive-green bob haircut with a characteristic bald spot, a red oval mark on his forehead, and orange-tone attire accented by silver shoulder pads and neck armor. He wields a double-edged laser sword with a gold hilt. This weapon later upgrades to extract imagination from targets, reshaping into combat assets like hoverboards or moon-themed staffs, significantly boosting his abilities until he leaves the Notraiders, whereupon it reverts. His biology demands regular submersion in water to replenish internal reserves; his powers surge dramatically during rainfall. Conversely, water-based attacks, such as Cure Milky's electricity techniques, exploit this physiology to weaken him.
Personality-wise, Kappard perceives himself as vastly superior to humans and aliens, frequently declaring himself overflowing with style. He performs exaggerated poses and flips during introductions and combat, showcasing his flair for dramatic presentation, even when extracting imagination. Deep-seated bitterness toward other species fuels him, stemming from childhood trauma: greedy visitors drained his planet's water resources during interracial conflicts, leading to its destruction. This fuels his commitment to the Notraiders' cause and a preference for direct combat over strategic minion deployment. Interactions with aliens or humans often evoke visible annoyance and awkwardness.
Within the Notraiders, Kappard obeys his superior, Garuouga, and maintains a rivalry with fellow commander Tenjo over claiming Fuwa's power. He commands Nottorei troops sternly yet genuinely regards them as comrades. Recruited by Darknest after his planet's devastation, he joined the Notraiders to enact revenge on other species.
Kappard relentlessly pursues the Cures. Early confrontations involve attacking Hikaru, Lala, and Prunce to capture Fuwa, repelled by Cure Star and Cure Milky. His upgraded imagination-extracting weapon debuts in Episode 13, though the Cures neutralize its advantages. Episode 32 reveals his recruitment flashback alongside Tenjo and Garuouga. Episode 37 delves into his traumatic past, showing him recounting his homeworld's destruction and expressing distrust toward Milky, warning of betrayal. Escalating in Episode 45, he darkens his imagination to empower his weapon into a trident and bo staff for vengeance. Following defeat, Cure Star's attempt to persuade him fails as Darknest forcibly retrieves him. Darknest grants him corruption armor in Episode 46, twisting imagination for power at the cost of sanity. The Cures purify him using Star Twinkle Imagination, breaking Darknest's control. Recovering in Episode 47, initial reluctance to try Hikaru's rice ball gives way to acceptance, symbolizing newfound trust. He allies with the Cures against Ophiuchus, contributing his imagination in Episode 48 to support their final victory.
Post-redemption, Kappard releases his grudges against the Cures. Fifteen years later, he collaborates with Tenjo and Garuouga to convert the former Notraiders headquarters into a botanical garden, working alongside reformed troops, marking his transition from vengeance-driven commander to a cooperative figure focused on renewal.
