Description
Haruka Ooyama is the daughter of Goro Ooyama, baseball coach at Meisei High School. She relocated from Kyushu to Meisei with her father after junior high, while her parents remain separated yet undivorced, and her mother pursues a rising writing career.
As a Meisei first-year, Haruka joined the rhythmic gymnastics club and rapidly excelled. Her early baseball involvement surfaced through frequent unsolicited advice during team practices, provoking reprimands from her gymnastics coach. These interactions revealed her innate baseball passion and tactical grasp.
A pivotal fall from an old referee chair—while gathering baseball data—fractured her arm, ending her gymnastics journey. She then transitioned to become Meisei baseball's official trainer and manager. The gymnastics club disbanded during her second year, cementing her baseball role.
Haruka embodies kindness, optimism, and supportiveness. Baseball-savvy and outspoken, she employs opportunistic strategies favoring long-term planning over short-term fixes. Deeply caring, she observes keenly, scouts rivals, and dissects games with analytical precision occasionally exceeding her father's acumen. Her puzzle-solving focus draws teammates like Toma Tachibana into collaborative brainstorming.
Relationships with the Tachibana stepbrothers anchor her narrative. She met Toma aged three at his mother’s funeral; upset by his disruptive conduct, she doused him with soda—a moment she fondly recalls as friendship’s start, though Toma forgets it. In high school, both Toma and stepbrother Souichiro develop romantic feelings. Souichiro, smitten at first sight, ceased dating others and frequented the ramen shop where Haruka worked part-time. Haruka maintains platonic ties with both, clashing often with Souichiro over contrasting baseball and life views, while sharing smoother rapport with Toma. She once guided Toma to their childhood meeting spot hoping to trigger his memory.
Power hitter Shirou Nangou’s transfer to Meisei hints at partial motivation to stay near Haruka. As trainer, she delivers comprehensive support—from player development to game strategy—propelling Meisei’s national championship ambitions.
