Description
Marlo Freudenberg graduated from the 104th Cadet Corps, separate from Eren Jaeger's division. He joined the Military Police Regiment intending to reform its corruption from within, specifically targeting tax and land misuse. Stationed in Stohess District, he served alongside Annie Leonhart and Hitch Dreyse. Within the Military Police, his strong idealism and commitment to justice manifested in refusing bribes and confronting corrupt superiors. This included threatening to report officers illegally selling omni-directional mobility gear, an incident escalating into a physical altercation halted by Annie and Hitch. Annie noted his passionate demeanor resembled Eren Jaeger's, observing both tended to "go against the flow of the world."

In the OVA "Wall Sina, Goodbye," Marlo assisted Annie's investigation into Carly Stratmann's disappearance. He provided crucial information on the Stratmann family business, demonstrating his dedication to justice during routine duties. This investigation uncovered links to illegal drug trafficking, further exposing the systemic corruption Marlo fought.

Marlo's disillusionment with the Military Police deepened during the Stohess District events, especially after witnessing the battle between Eren and the Female Titan. He questioned his superiors' concealment of Titans infiltrating Wall Sina, recognizing the organization's complicity. This culminated in his capture by the Scout Regiment during their mission to overthrow the royal government. Learning the Scouts' motives and the government's corruption, Marlo declared his intent to join them, vowing to "do anything it takes to right the wrongs in this world." He aided the Scouts by infiltrating Military Police headquarters to facilitate the takeover.

Following the successful coup, Marlo officially transferred to the Scout Regiment. He embraced the mission to reclaim Wall Maria as a chance to contribute to humanity's survival. During preparations, he debated tactics with Jean Kirschtein, questioning new recruits' rear placement. Jean explained this ensured experience without treating them as expendable. Marlo accepted the reasoning but remained eager to prove his worth.

During the Shiganshina District operation, Marlo's squad protected the Scouts' horses. Trapped at Wall Maria's base by the Beast Titan's attack, Commander Erwin Smith ordered a suicide charge to distract the Titan for Captain Levi. Marlo participated, rallying panicking recruits and maintaining order. Struck by the Beast Titan's second wave of boulders, he was killed. His final thoughts were of Hitch, wondering if she was still asleep.

Marlo's relationship with Hitch persisted throughout. She opposed his transfer to the Scouts, urging him toward an easier Military Police life. His decision strained their friendship, though his last moments reflected their connection. After his death, Hitch reminisced about his stubbornness and dedication to his ideals.
