Description
Mel Shido, a main character in Kiratto Pri☆Chan, begins as a 13-year-old and ages to 16. Her unique background includes graduating from a US university via accelerated education before transferring to Kirarigaoka Middle School in Japan to fulfill compulsory education requirements. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Shido.
Physically, Mel possesses sharp indigo eyes and distinctive waist-length purple hair that flares outward with curled tips. Her bangs feature a split design with a loose central lock.
Her personality bursts with extreme cheerfulness, high energy, and eccentricity. She greets others with cheek kisses and struggles to stay idle. A self-proclaimed foodie who especially loves donuts, she engages in playful conflicts over them, like fighting Emo Moegi for a bagel. Despite academic brilliance, she displays klutziness in daily life. She habitually calls herself "Mel-Mel" and uses affectionate nicknames like "AnAn" for Anna Akagi and "MiraMira" for Mirai Momoyama.
Mel co-founded the idol unit Meltic StAr with childhood friends Anna Akagi and Sara Midorikawa. She left abruptly to pursue naming a comet after the unit, aiming to give Anna "a star that never falls." This departure created unresolved tension, particularly with Anna, who initially rejected her upon her return in Season 1. Their reconciliation happened during a Sports Festival where Mel challenged Anna's team, explained her motives, and led to an emotional reunion and Meltic StAr's revival. Mel also formed meaningful bonds beyond the unit, notably helping Suzu Kurokawa overcome feelings of inferiority by emphasizing mutual understanding isn't essential for collaboration.
As a cool-type idol favoring the brand Universe Queen, Mel debuted in Episode 23 in a trio performance, bypassing the typical solo debut. She made history as the first idol to achieve a colored Jewel Coord on her initial Jewel Chance. Throughout the series, she wore significant coords like the Knowledge Purple Jewel Coord and Cybercat Yellow Coord. In Season 3, she participated in the Princess Cup at Pri☆Chan Land, using the PriTamaGo device to raise her mascot Melpan and compete for the Illuminage Queen title.
Additional trivia notes her birthday on April 23 (English Day in Japan), her hobby of inventing—including plans for a large donut machine—and her claimed past work at NASA. She shares similarities with Mia Ageha from Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future, such as purple hair, a cheerful personality, and trio unit dynamics.
