Description
Tsutsuji hails from Onigashima, a place steeped in traditional oni folklore where persistent stereotypes dictate oni attire, particularly tiger stripes. Her deep voice fueled rumors of dark secrets back home, initially making her uncomfortable with her heritage. Sent on a mission to reshape human views of oni, she transfers to a Tokyo middle school in the Ohasuta district alongside two other oni girls. Her role is that of a cultural ambassador, bridging the gap between oni and humans through community interaction.

She sports long magenta hair in twin ponytails secured by yellow ribbons, golden eyes with vertical, cat-like pupils, and two horns. Tsutsuji wears a standard school uniform daily. For their mission, the trio utilizes "onipan" (oni underwear), a magical tiger-striped garment enabling transformation when worn over clothes. Tsutsuji finds this item deeply embarrassing, seeing it as an outdated stereotype she wishes to escape, though it remains essential. Initial exposure to human society, especially crowded urban environments and train travel, overwhelms her, fueling a desire to return home. Yet, her fascination with human fashion and cute clothing motivates her to persist.

Within her group, she embodies the Ego in a Freudian Trio, constantly torn between fascination with human culture—especially contemporary fashion—and longing for Onigashima's safety. This conflict manifests as neurotic, sometimes seemingly pathetic behavior. Despite this, fierce determination surfaces when committed, like her relentless quest to return a lost stuffed animal. Her development involves gradually confronting challenges beyond her comfort zone, participating in initiatives to revitalize a struggling shopping center and engaging in school activities, learning to leverage her resolve.

Tsutsuji frequently breaks the fourth wall, openly acknowledging narrative conventions early on by commenting on the anime's status mid-conversation. Her ambassadorial role centers on navigating lingering human prejudices against oni, particularly outside major cities. By the series' conclusion, her growth is evident as she actively pursues proving the oni's positive potential, joining a determined chase through town to demonstrate their worthiness to continue.
