Description
Kurata exists in two distinct iterations within the Ultraman franchise.

In the original *Ultraseven* series, Kurata commands the Terrestrial Defense Force's Space Station V3. He shares a deep, longstanding camaraderie with Ultra Guard captain Kaoru Kiriyama, forged during their training school years. Their bond reflects mutual respect tempered by occasional tactical friction; Kurata frequently pushes aggressive strategies while Kiriyama emphasizes team safety. This clash surfaces during the Alien Iyros crisis when Kurata demands an attack despite Kiriyama's hostage-exchange concerns.

A highly skilled pilot of Station Hawks and Ultra Hawks, Kurata battles extraterrestrial threats including Alien Iyros and Alien Zamppa. He and Kiriyama eliminated Zamppa operatives on Planet Hermes, a mission later recalled when confronting a survivor impersonating crewmate Shirahama on the moon. Kurata also clashes with Dan Moroboshi (Ultraseven's human form) over delayed communications during Alien Ghose’s invasion, initially branding Dan a "coward" after his TDF departure. He later apologizes and provides crucial aid to Ultraseven against Reconstructed Pandon.

Within the *ULTRAMAN* manga and anime, Kurata serves as a detective partnered with veteran investigator Yosuke Endo. They probe bizarre murders initially obstructed by the SSSP. Responding to a traffic accident, Kurata witnesses Shinjiro Hayata’s intervention in an Ultraman Suit, dismissing it as cosplay. His skepticism contrasts sharply with Endo's suspicion of Shinjiro's SSSP ties.

Kurata actively participates in setting traps for suspects, including one targeting alien serial killer Igaru that inadvertently draws Alien Bris. Frustration erupts when Endo withholds information about his daughter, Rena Sayama, excluding Kurata from the investigation. He later assists Endo in arresting the murder perpetrators. Following encounters with entities like Bemular and Adad, Kurata jests about forming an alien investigation department—a proposal Endo unexpectedly endorses.

A minor note confirms the *ULTRAMAN* iteration shares the surname of the V3 captain from *Ultraseven*, though they remain separate characters.
