Description
Mansaku Tsunomata is an 18-year-old member of Team Spring, tall and well-built with long black hair usually in a ponytail, his muscles honed by archery training. He consistently wears Zen monk garments: a white kimono beneath a black one. After a landslide destroys Team Spring's base and most of his belongings, his appearance becomes disheveled, including unkempt designer stubble.

Generally calm and gentle, he exhibits occasional arrogance about his archery skills and an unpredictable tendency to recite poetry or Tang Dynasty verses, often annoying others. Initially prioritizing self-preservation, he remains silent during their guide Yanagi's harassment of female team members. However, once committed to a cause, he transforms into a reliable and trustworthy ally.

Before cryonic preservation, he resided in Nara and Kyoto and planned to become a priest, reflected in his knowledge of Buddhism and meditation practices. Details about his family are unknown.

A highly skilled archer, he crafts his own bows and arrows for hunting. His expertise in Buddhism and poetry serves as both a strength and a social quirk. His notable weakness is an initial reluctance to intervene in conflicts, choosing safety over confrontation.

His story begins when he assists Team Spring's food retrieval group from the water shortly after their awakening. On Insects Island, he actively supports Hana in locating water sources and protects her from insect attacks while she builds a water-drawing device. After Yanagi's death, he travels with Team Spring to mainland Kanto, aiding in battles against threats like water nymphae. He remains with the group at their new base near one of the Fuji mountains, even as Hana, Haru, and Aramaki depart.

The catastrophic landslide destroys Team Spring's base and scatters the members. Separated and alone, Tsunomata wanders until encountering Hibari Nigusa, who left Team Summer B. Recognizing her from carrying her during her unconsciousness, he assumes responsibility for her care. Together, they journey through Nara and Kyoto, visiting his former homes, before setting out for Sado Island to fulfill Hibari's urgent objective.
