Description
Eijun Sawamura is a second-year student at Seidou High School and a left-handed pitcher who has earned the prestigious ace number, jersey number 1, for the team during the summer tournament of his second year. Originally from Nagano Prefecture, where he played baseball with his middle school team at Akagi Middle School, Sawamura joined Seidou with the ambition of reaching the national championships. He stands at 175 centimeters tall and weighs 65 kilograms.

In terms of personality, Sawamura is defined by his loud, energetic, and often boisterous nature, making him a natural mood-maker for the Seidou baseball team. He is characterized by a fierce fighting spirit and an unshakeable mental toughness, often described as having an unbreakable spirit that allows him to get back up no matter how many times he is knocked down. He is extremely straightforward and honest about his feelings, frequently saying exactly what is on his mind without much of a filter. This can come across as abrasive or annoying to those who do not know him, and he has a tendency to be impulsive and hotheaded, acting before he thinks. Beneath his loud exterior, however, he possesses a heart of gold and an incredible capacity for loyalty and hard work. He is also known for his playful nicknames for his coaches, occasionally addressing Coach Kataoka as "shogun" (general). He cries easily, gets angry quickly, and thrives on praise, much to the amusement and occasional frustration of his teammates.

Sawamura's primary motivation is a deep, burning desire to become the ace pitcher of Seidou and to lead the team to the Summer Koshien national tournament. He uses past frustrations and failures as fuel for his continuous growth, constantly striving to improve himself step by step. Throughout the story, his role evolves from a raw, unrefined relief pitcher to the reliable ace who starts the most important games for Seidou. He is often seen as the emotional heart of the team, with his visible passion and never-give-up attitude frequently resonating with his teammates and motivating them to perform at their best.

His key relationships are central to his development. His roommate is the shortstop Youichi Kuramochi, who often teases him. The catcher and team captain Kazuya Miyuki is his primary battery partner, and though Sawamura respects his skill, he frequently argues with Miyuki's "nasty" personality. One of the most significant relationships is with the senior catcher Chris Yuu Takigawa. Their partnership began poorly when an impatient Sawamura harshly criticized Chris, unaware that Chris was battling a serious shoulder injury that had kept him from playing. After learning the truth, Sawamura was deeply remorseful and begged Chris to teach him, forming a profound student-teacher bond that became foundational to Sawamura's understanding of baseball. He also shares a fierce rivalry with Satoru Furuya, the talented pitcher who held the ace number before him, and a developing relationship with the underclassman catcher Koushuu Okumura, who initially resents Sawamura but grows to understand and respect his unique approach to pitching. Back in his hometown, he has a childhood friend named Wakana who supports him from afar.

Sawamura's development is a central arc of the story, showing a clear progression from a clumsy, emotionally driven pitcher with poor control to a composed and reliable ace. A major turning point was his experience with the "yips," a mental block that prevented him from pitching inside after a traumatic home run was hit off him. This period forced him to struggle and rebuild his game from the ground up, and overcoming it made him a stronger and more resilient pitcher. By his second year, he has noticeably improved the velocity and control of his pitches, and he has learned to remain focused and composed under pressure, rising to the occasion in critical situations.

Notable among Sawamura's abilities is his signature pitching style, which involves a unique delivery that hides the ball's release point, making his timing difficult for batters to read. This allows him to throw tricky, moving pitches. Unlike a traditional power pitcher, Sawamura's strength lies in his mental fortitude and his array of breaking balls, which are often numbered for identification by his catchers. He is also renowned within the series as an exceptional bunter, possessing the fearlessness to lay down a bunt even against the most intimidating pitchers. His pitch repertoire includes a four-seam fastball and a changeup, among other breaking pitches he has developed over time.
