Description
Unberto Mori is an Italian human military officer commanding the Aratrum, an emigrant spaceship functioning as humanity's last refuge following Earth's conquest by Godzilla. His gray hair, full beard, and prominent scar across his left eye reflect his seasoned leadership.
Mori first proved his capabilities decades earlier during "Operation: Eternal Light" in 2039. Serving as deputy captain aboard the attack submarine Goten under Captain Jinguji in the Strait of Dover, he played a key role in commanding the vessel to defeat the serpentine kaiju Manda. This success contributed to his appointment as captain of the Aratrum nearly ten years later.
Aboard the Aratrum, Mori leads with pragmatism and caution, prioritizing preserving human lives amid constant threats. He initially resists Haruo Sakaki's plan to return to Earth and confront Godzilla over concerns about casualties and limited resources, but ultimately authorizes the operation after assessing its strategic merits. Following the near-total annihilation of United Earth forces by Godzilla Earth, Mori defies immediate evacuation orders. He mandates a 48-hour holding period in orbit to scan for survivors using reconnaissance drones, demonstrating his commitment to recovering personnel despite risks.
Mori's leadership faces significant challenges during political and social unrest aboard the Aratrum. After the destruction of Mechagodzilla City, tensions escalate between human factions and the alien Bilusaludo crew members, who demand punishment for Haruo Sakaki's actions in thwarting their assimilation plan. The Bilusaludo initiate a revolt by seizing control of the ship's engine room and shutting down primary power systems, forcing the vessel onto secondary batteries. Confronted with demands for Haruo's execution, Mori resists authorizing lethal countermeasures against the mutineers, seeking to avoid fracturing the crew further and worsening social conditions.
During the Exif priests Metphies and Endurph's summoning of the cosmic entity Ghidorah, the Aratrum is threatened by a gravitational singularity. Mori orders emergency thruster maneuvers to escape the destructive field. These efforts fail due to critical system failures caused by the earlier Bilusaludo sabotage, leaving the ship immobilized. Ghidorah's subsequent attack triggers a catastrophic reactor core detonation, resulting in a nuclear explosion that destroys the Aratrum and kills Mori along with the entire crew.
