TV-Series
Description
Wannai Kinuho is a Level 3 esper at Tokiwadai Middle School, wielding the Hydro Hand ability to manipulate water. She has short wavy light-brown hair, blue eyes, and a bust size of 80, a trait sometimes met with jealousy. Kind, considerate, and forgiving, she holds deep respect for her seniors, especially Misaka Mikoto, to whom she feels indebted after Mikoto saved her from delinquents soon after her transfer. Residing in the School Garden dormitory, this incident initially left her fearful, but solidified her admiration for Mikoto. Her involvement with the school swimming team grants her specialized swimsuit knowledge, and she is frequently seen with her close friend Awatsuki Maaya.
Wannai first appears during the Level Upper arc, recognizing Mikoto while she and Maaya encounter Mikoto and Shirai Kuroko cleaning a pool. She immediately expresses gratitude and demonstrates Hydro Hand, accidentally upsetting Kuroko. Later, she and Maaya recruit Mikoto and Kuroko for a swimsuit photoshoot. Their attempt to cook curry for the shoot fails, leading them to seek help first from Kongou Mitsuko and then Konori Mii, fostering a friendship with Kongou.
During the Poltergeist arc, Wannai and Maaya attend the Tokiwadai Midsummer Festival as Kongou's guests, witnessing Mikoto's violin performance. Later, at swimming practice, Maaya hands Wannai a towel; both express concern for Kongou after her Poltergeist-related hospitalization. They later discuss Kongou's apparent resolution of the incidents.
In the Silent Party arc, Wannai, Maaya, and Kongou assist an upperclassman and confront a purse snatcher subdued by Kongou's Aero Hand. When Anti-Skill representative Aritomi Haruki berates Kongou, Wannai and Maaya attempt a defense before Haruki departs. They later help prepare for the Academy City Research Exhibition Assembly, befriending a girl named Febrie. After Febrie disappears at the venue, they join the search. When Kongou leaves to warn Mikoto about Haruki's plans, Wannai and Maaya plead to accompany her but stay behind. They subsequently assist Kongou in investigating powered suits linked to Haruki, help purchase a dress for Febrie, and visit her at Judgment 177 Branch Office. During the Silent Party's attack, Wannai and Maaya serve as vanguard at one Assembly venue entrance. In combat, Wannai uses Hydro Hand to distract powered suits while Maaya's Float Dial lures them toward Kongou for elimination. They later support a weakened Kongou as she uses Aero Hand to launch a mecha into the atmosphere.
At the Daihasei Festival, Wannai and Maaya watch a tug-of-war and discuss anger. Tasked with finding Mikoto for Tokiwadai's Balloon Hunter, Wannai mistakes Misaka 10032 for Mikoto. Noticing the clone is in uniform, Wannai lends her a P.E. uniform. Later, at Tokiwadai's hotel, Wannai inquires about the uniform's return, prompting Mikoto to claim it was soiled and at the cleaners. Confronting MEMBER operative Yoshio Baba after he injures Kongou, Wannai initially repels his robotic dogs with Hydro Hand. When Baba tries to split them by offering a nanodevice, Wannai pursues him alone. Underestimating her ability away from water, Baba is surprised when Wannai uses water retained from underground drains to envelop his head, nearly drowning him. After Maaya rejoins her, they defeat Baba, though he flees and summons a larger robot. Mikoto later dismantles the robot, warning Baba against targeting her friends.
